  • Patent number: 8196642
Abstract: A heating and air conditioning apparatus has an enclosure that defines an interior volume containing a compressor, a condenser coil, an expansion valve, an evaporator coil, a hot water coil, an evaporator fan, and a condenser fan. The compressor, the condenser coil, the expansion valve, and the evaporator coil are in communication with each other. The enclosure also has first and second input air openings and first and second output air openings. The evaporator fan draws air through the first input air opening and then through the evaporator coil and the hot water coil, and thereafter forces such air out of the enclosure through the first air outlet opening. The condenser fan draws air through the second input air opening and then through the condenser coil, and thereafter forces such air out of the enclosure through the second air outlet opening.

  • Patent number: 8197193
Abstract: An air distribution blower housing has an adjustable restriction in the interior of the blower housing. The adjustable restriction has the configuration of a rectangular plate. One edge of the plate is connected by a pivoting connection to an interior wall of the blower housing in the air flow path from the blower housing. The plate can be pivoted about the pivot connection through a plurality of adjusted angular positions of the plate in the air flow path. In each adjusted position of the plate, the length of the plate extends from the pivot connection in the air flow direction. A sliding connection is provided between the plate and at least one side wall of the blower housing. The sliding connection selectively holds the plate in its adjusted angular position and also provides a visual indication on the exterior of the blower housing of the adjusted angular position of the plate inside the blower housing.

  • Patent number: 8029345
Abstract: A fire stop apparatus for a small duct, high velocity air distribution system is assembled to a duct opening and includes a cylindrical support wall that supports a cylindrical band of intumescent material that expands and closes the duct opening when subjected to the heat of a fire.

  • Publication number: 20080202125
Abstract: A packaged small-duct, high-velocity air conditioning and heat pump apparatus has a compact construction that facilitates its incorporation into a building structure and its connection with a small-duct, high-velocity air distribution system. The compact construction of the apparatus is achieved by a novel arrangement of a refrigerant fluid compressor, a condenser coil, an evaporator coil, expansion valves, a reversing valve, a hot water coil, a condenser fan, an evaporator fan, and control systems for the condenser and evaporator in a single enclosure that can be easily mounted in a wall of a structure to provide heating and air conditioning to the interior of the structure.

  • Patent number: 6168518
Abstract: A vent structure with a slotted rectangular outlet includes a cylindrical connector section to mate with a cylindrical duct, a flared and curved transition section, and a rectangular outlet section. The structure is formed in such a manner that turbulence is minimized in air flowing through the structure to thereby lessen the generation of airflow noise. The structure is sized and shaped to fit within a stud wall formed by conventionally sized studs positioned at a typical spacing. The structure includes a mounting plate with a mounting channel to receive an extendible mounting bracket, the ends of which are fastened to studs between which the structure is mounted.

  • Patent number: 5050392
Abstract: There is provided by this invention a method and an apparatus for cooling a heat load that is operable in zero gravity conditions and while in any orientation due to the design of the apparatus. The apparatus' components are also selected so as to comprise a lightweight refrigeration system. The apparatus utilizes direct contact between two fluids, a liquid coolant and a refrigerant, with widely different vapor pressures so that one fluid, the coolant, always remains a liquid in the system. The two fluids may be totally or partially soluble in one another or they may be totally insoluble in one another with the degree of solubility affecting the system's efficiency, but not its reliable operation. The refrigerant, which boils and condenses during the refrigeration cycle, is mixed with the coolant and condensed prior to the portion of the system's cycle in which the heat is rejected to a heat sink and is subsequently separated from the coolant.
