Patent number: 8375144Abstract: A system is disclosed. The system includes a first network module communicatively coupled to a plurality of services associated with a first network utilizing a first protocol. The system also includes a second network module communicatively coupled to a plurality of services associated with a second network utilizing a second protocol, the second protocol being different than the first protocol. The system also includes a service determination module coupled to the first and second network modules, the service determination module operable to receive a request from the first network module to access at least one service from the plurality of services associated with the second network. The service determination module determines the at least one requested service and sends the request to the at least one requested service associated with the second network through the second network module utilizing the second protocol.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2011Date of Patent: February 12, 2013Assignee: Metaswitch Networks LtdInventors: James L. Bunch, Craig W. Miller, Gerald R. Dubois, Lindsey D. Owen, Suryaram Alladi

Patent number: 8015350Abstract: Method and apparatus for using block level quality of service (QOS) data in a data storage device. A memory space is provided with a plurality of physical data storage blocks, such as data sectors on a magnetic disc. The QOS data identify at least one QOS characteristic for each of the available blocks. Transfers of user data between the blocks and a host device are preferably carried out in relation to the QOS data. In some preferred embodiments, the QOS data identifies a certification state for each of the blocks. In this way, the device is manufactured with less than all of the blocks having been successfully certified, and the remaining blocks are certified by the device during field use. In other preferred embodiments, the QOS data include a virus scan status, an access history, a write status, or an overlapped track indication for each said block.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2006Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventors: Timothy R. Feldman, Jonathan W. Haines, William B. Raspotnik, Craig W. Miller, Edwin Scott Olds

Patent number: 7881282Abstract: A method is provided managing a call using a digital communication device, where the device provides an interface between a public broadband network and a public circuit switched network. In one example, the method includes receiving a request at the device from either the broadband or circuit switched network to establish the call and identifying a destination for the call. A path from the requesting network to the destination is determined, where the determination identifies whether the path will use one or both of the broadband and circuit switched networks. The call is routed via the path, and the device identifies the destination, determines the path, and routes the call without using any resources associated with the circuit switched network if the path does not include the circuit switched network.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 2004Date of Patent: February 1, 2011Assignee: Data Connection Ltd.Inventors: Mark A. Crutcher, Randal E. Waters, Craig W. Miller

Patent number: 7827378Abstract: The application relates to defect management using mutable logical to physical association. Embodiments disclosed utilize mutable mapping between logical blocks and physical blocks. Dynamically updated mapping data, which mutably associates the logical blocks and the physical blocks, also includes physical block defect allocations.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2007Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventors: Timothy R. Feldman, Jonathan W. Haines, Craig W. Miller, Edwin S. Olds

Patent number: 6816482Abstract: A system and method is provided for interfacing a broadband network and a circuit switched network, such as a PSTN, that is accessed via a switch that resides in the circuit switched network. The system includes a device, such as a gateway, that is located at a point of convergence between the two networks and connects to the circuit switched network through the switch. The gateway incorporates call management capabilities and is able to offload call management functions from the circuit switched network. The method manages call traffic by identifying a final destination for a call and determining a path for the call to the final destination. If the path does not need to use the circuit switched network, the gateway routes the call without accessing the switch.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2003Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Carrius Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mark A. Crutcher, Randal E. Waters, Craig W. Miller
