  • Patent number: 9652786
Abstract: A method for attributing revenue for embedded software that displays advertising. The method includes the first step of determining the presence of more than one type of embedded software on a given client site. Then, the process assigns priority based on the length of time each type has resided on the client system and the source of each type, followed by classifying each software type, based on the history of present and predecessor copies of the software. A distribution factor is applied to each software type, based on the amount of advertising displayed by each software type and the length of time each software type has been installed. The partner revenue is distributed based on the distribution factor applied to each software type and a rate table.

  • Publication number: 20040243584
Abstract: In one embodiment, a blocking layer prevents a client computer without a pass from accessing a website. The blocking layer may have opaque or transparent portions, and may prevent an end-user on the client computer from interacting with the website. The pass may comprise a cookie, for example. Depending on implementation, the client computer may still be provided temporary access to the website to minimize any negative effect the blocking layer may have on website traffic. The end-user may also be provided an offer to gain permanent access to the website.

  • Publication number: 20040083474
Abstract: In one embodiment, a software application is downloaded to a client computer by detecting a setting and, based on the setting, determining if a user will be alerted prior to the download. If the user will not be alerted prior to the download, the software application is not downloaded to the client computer without a specific authorization from the user. The user may specifically authorize the download by responding to a non-browser message such as a dialog box, for example. In one embodiment, the setting comprises a security setting of a web browser, and the download involves downloading the software application in chunks to the client computer over the Internet.

  • Publication number: 20030145316
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are disclosed for initiating a software download. A page of a web site is accessed via a network utilizing a browser application running on a client computer. A plug-in application is included the page of the web site. Next, it is determined whether the client computer is suitable for receiving the plug-in application. If the client computer is determined to be suitable for receiving the plug-in application, then the plug-in application is downloaded from the web site to the client computer via the network. This plug-in application has instructions for downloading a download manager application to the client computer via the network. The download manager application is subsequently downloaded to the client computer via the network utilizing the plug-in application. The download manager application has instructions for downloading a software application in chunks to the client computer via the network.
