Abstract: The present invention broadly relates to nutritional compositions comprising unstable materials and the use thereof in food products. More specifically, the invention relates to compositions comprising edible oils, in particular fatty acid-containing oils, and the use thereof in the preparation of food products such as infant formula.

Abstract: A method for preparing a device, the method comprising: forming a first device layer over a first electrode, the layer comprising a metal oxide formed from a sol-gel composition that does not generate acidic by-products, and forming a second electrode over the first device layer, wherein the method further includes forming a layer comprising quantum dots over the first electrode before or after formation of the first device layer. Also disclosed is a device comprising a first device layer formed over a first electrode, the first device layer comprising a metal oxide formed by sol-gel processing that does not include acidic by-products, a second electrode over the first device layer, and a layer comprising quantum dots disposed between the first device layer and one of the two electrodes. A device prepared by the method is also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to ellipsometer and polarimeter systems, and more particularly is an ellipsometer or polarimeter or the like system which operates in a frequency range between 300 GHz or lower and extending to higher than at least 1 Tera-hertz (THz), and preferably through the Infra-red (IR) range up to, and higher than 100 THz, including: a source such as a backward wave oscillator; a Smith-Purcell cell; a free electron laser, or an FTIR source and a solid state device; and a detector such as a Golay cell; a bolometer or a solid state detector; and preferably including a polarization state generator comprising: an odd bounce image rotating system and a polarizer, or two polarizers; and optionally including least one compensator and/or modulator, in addition to an analyzer.

Abstract: A method for managing a fracturing operation. In one implementation, the method may include positioning one or more sources and one or more receivers near a hydrocarbon reservoir; pumping a fracturing fluid into a well bore of the hydrocarbon reservoir; performing a survey with the sources and the receivers during the fracturing operation; comparing the baseline survey to the survey performed during the fracturing operation; analyzing one or more differences between the baseline survey and the survey performed during the fracturing operation; and modifying the fracturing operation based on the differences.

Abstract: A system for displaying content on a touch screen device is disclosed. The system can include a remote server having content and an instruction code; and a touch screen device having processor and a communication interface with the remote server to support a request for content from the remote server; wherein the processor of the touch screen device executes the instruction code to present content at a touchpoint on a display screen of the touch screen device.

Abstract: Administration of an aptitude test is limited to one or more explicitly authorized computers associated with the user and usage of each computer is monitored during administration of the test and evaluated to make inferences regarding the user's aptitude beyond the direct results of the test. If the computer used by an authenticated is not properly authorized for the user, much tighter authentication is required to add the computer as an authorized computer. In addition, the server determines an approximate geological location of the computer. If the computer is determined to be at a location the user is not expected to be, the server refuses to administer the test. The server receives the responsive solutions provided by the user along with usage data representing usage of the user's computer during the pendency of each challenge. In evaluating the test results, the usage data is used to make one or more inferences of the user's aptitude.

Abstract: A memory component includes a memory core comprising dynamic random access memory (DRAM) storage cells and a first circuit to receive external commands. The external commands include a read command that specifies transmitting data accessed from the memory core. The memory component also includes a second circuit to transmit data onto an external bus in response to a read command and pattern register circuitry operable during calibration to provide at least a first data pattern and a second data pattern. During the calibration, a selected one of the first data pattern and the second data pattern is transmitted by the second circuit onto the external bus in response to a read command received during the calibration.

Abstract: A method for making a device, the method comprising: depositing a layer comprising quantum dots over a first electrode, the quantum dots including ligands attached to the outer surfaces thereof; treating the surface of the deposited layer comprising quantum dots to remove the exposed ligands; and forming a device layer thereover. Also disclosed is a device made in accordance with the disclosed method. Another aspect of the invention relates to a device comprising a first electrode and a second electrode, and a layer comprising quantum dots between the two electrodes, the layer comprising quantum dots deposited from a dispersion that have been treated to remove exposed ligands after formation of the layer in the device.

Abstract: The mounting plate system is for use with a prosthetic socket, the socket having at least one aperture in a distal end thereof and in fluid communication with an interior portion of the socket which receives a residual limb. The mounting plate system includes a mounting plate having a top face to interface with the socket, and a bottom face for attachment to lower portions of a prosthetic limb. An opening in the mounting plate extends from the top face to the bottom face thereof, and a valve housing is positioned in the opening and has a channel therein for fluid communication with the interior portion of the socket via the at least one aperture. A one-way expulsion valve is secured between the valve housing and the socket adjacent the aperture and for regulating fluid communication between the interior portion of the socket and the channel in the valve housing. A vacuum reservoir seal plate is also provided.

An example of a method according to the disclosure includes assigning at least one asset worth value to respective digital assets associated with a device, computing at least one device worth value using the at least one asset worth value assigned to the digital assets associated with the device, identifying at least one device worth value threshold, performing a comparison of the at least one device worth value to the at least one worth value threshold, and initiating at least one action with respect to the digital assets associated with the device based on the comparison.

Abstract: Replaceable shaving assemblies are disclosed that include a blade unit, an interface element configured to removably connect the blade unit to a handle, on which the blade unit is pivotably mounted, and an elastomeric element disposed between the blade unit and interface element. Shaving systems including such shaving assemblies are also disclosed, as are methods of using such shaving systems.

Abstract: A fitting assembly having a nut, a ferrule, and a ferrule tip that may be assembled by an operator. The fitting assembly includes a nut with first and second ends, with the second end adapted to receive the first end of a ferrule, and a ferrule tip with a first end having an externally tapered portion adapted to abut the second end of the ferrule and a second end adapted to be received in a component or fitting of a liquid chromatography system. The nut, ferrule and ferrule tip of the fitting assembly have passageways therethrough for receiving and removably holding tubing.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for wirelessly transmitting power to receivers that are freely mobile, such as power receivers for sensors attached to animal experiments. An example transmitter includes a resonator including a generator and transmitter coil, an initial drive signal generator that removes the generator from an ‘off’ state thereby causing the transmitter coil to create an alternating magnetic field that oscillates within a threshold of a resonant frequency of the generator, a phase detector that receives a signal from a receiver coil receiving power via the magnetic field, and a transition module that switches from the initial drive signal to a drive signal generated based on output from the phase detector. An example wireless power receiver has three turns of wire, one on each axis, around a ferrite plate, the outputs of which are connected in parallel to produce a combined output power signal.

Abstract: Heat pumps with improved defrost cycles and methods of defrosting heat exchangers, for example, having microchannel outdoor heat exchangers. A heat exchanger has three types of connection points that are used during a defrost cycle. Two connection points are used to deliver hot refrigerant gas to the heat exchanger and one connection point is where refrigerant exits the heat exchanger. Two of the connection points are at the same header and during at least part of the defrost cycle, at least part of the hot refrigerant gas is passed through that header without passing through any cross tubes of the heat exchanger. A defrost valve in a refrigerant conduit opens during the defrost cycle to deliver hot refrigerant gas to the connection point on the header. In a number of embodiments, the defrost valve is open only during a portion of the defrost cycle.

Abstract: A network-based application can establish a secure network connection to a switch. A unique identifier (UID) is generated for the network-based application, and a secure authentication request is generated from the network-based application. The UID for the network-based application is embedded in the secure authentication request. The secure authentication request is communicated to the switch. A response to the secure authentication request is received from the switch. One or more operations are performed that utilize the UID to establish a secure communication channel between the network-based application and the switch.

Abstract: An electronic gaming machine including a candle mount for securing a candle device to the gaming machine and providing wireless communication capabilities to the gaming machine is described. The candle device can include a number of stages that when activated alone or in combination with other stages convey information about the status of the gaming machine. A gaming machine with an existing candle device can be retrofitted with a candle mount that includes a wireless radio device that is operably coupled to the gaming machine.

Abstract: A cabin air compressor housing for a cabin air compressor assembly includes a compressor volute configured to direct a compressed flow to a compressor outlet. The cabin air compressor housing also includes a journal bearing support having a journal bearing bore. The cabin air compressor housing further includes an interior portion between the compressor volute and the journal bearing support. The interior portion includes a plurality of cooling airflow holes having a ratio of a diameter of the journal bearing bore to a diameter of one of the cooling airflow holes between 3.64 and 4.52.

Abstract: An inventive hermetically sealed leaded package for in-line fiber optic devices, such as an optical fiber tap, is described. The package advantageously employs electrical feedthroughs that are compatible with batch processing of micromachined silicon wafers.
