  • Patent number: 8468359
Abstract: Techniques for creating and using credentials for blinded intended audiences are provided. A principal desires access to a target service. An identity associated with the target service is hidden from an identity service via a random identifier. The identity service supplies an assertion with credentials and the random identifier. The principal sends the assertion and an access message, which also includes the random identifier to the target service. The target service compares the identifier included with the message to the identifier in the assertion and when a match occurs access is permitted to the target service, assuming other credentials associated with the assertion are satisfied as well.

  • Patent number: 8464556
Abstract: Method of making a microstructured optical fiber. Silica glass based soot is deposited on a substrate to form at least a portion of an optical fiber preform by traversing a soot deposition burner with respect to said substrate at a burner traverse rate greater than 3 cm/sec, thereby depositing a layer of soot having a thickness less than 20 microns for each of a plurality of burner passes. At least a portion of the soot preform is then consolidated inside a furnace to remove greater than 50 percent of the air trapped in said soot preform, said consolidating taking place in a gaseous atmosphere containing krypton, nitrogen, or mixtures thereof under conditions which are effective to trap a portion of said gaseous atmosphere in said preform during said consolidation step, thereby forming a consolidated preform which when viewed in cross section will exhibit at least 50 voids therein.

  • Patent number: 8464578
Abstract: A multi-functional, composite fuel display for displaying both fuel level information and fuel economy information is provided. The fuel level is displayed using a plurality of bar segments, each corresponding to a single unit of fuel. Once a single unit of fuel is consumed, the corresponding bar segment changes size to indicate an average fuel economy for that unit of fuel. The bar segment corresponding to the current unit of fuel being consumed changes size in real time to indicate instantaneous fuel economy. An indicator is provided over the bar segments corresponding to single unit of consumed fuel to indicate average fuel economy for the current tank of fuel.

  • Patent number: 8465785
Abstract: Reducing the digestion of digestible carbohydrates in a digestible carbohydrate-based material, and reducing the absorption of the digestion product(s) of digestible carbohydrates (that is, simple sugars) within the small intestine. The undigested digestible carbohydrate and the unabsorbed digestion products pass through the small intestines and into the colon, where they are fermented. In effect, the food materials made by practicing the present invention cause a controlled amount of digestible carbohydrate to by-pass the small intestine, resulting in the fermentation of digestible carbohydrates in the colon. The invention also provides for processing of a digestible carbohydrate-based ingredient with a non-digestible food film material, to form a reduced digestible carbohydrate food having a protective food film network, which can inhibit or prevent digestion of the digestible carbohydrate.

  • Publication number: 20130149044
Abstract: A prop, for example for supporting the roof of an underground mine, is provided in the form of a vessel. The vessel includes a base having a bottom and one or more sides. A cover, including a top and one or more sides is provided. The top includes a space for accommodating a roof bolt when installed in a mine. Sides of the cover and of the base overlap each other to a maximal extent in a collapsed configuration. A port is formed in the one or more sides for filling the vessel with material when the sides of the cover and of the base overlap each other to a minimal extent in an extended configuration. Consequently the prop is able to go from a collapsed configuration for transportation or storage, to an extended configuration for supporting the roof of the mine. The top of the vessel may comprise a flexible envelope fast with the one or more sides of the cover for receiving the filling, in order to present a deformable upper surface for bearing an uneven load.

  • Publication number: 20130150912
Abstract: A heart rate variability or heart rate variation can be identified using sensed and/or paced heart beats. One or more patient metrics, such as a variability index or a variation index, can correspond to the identified heart rate variability or heart rate variation. The patient metrics can be used to identify a need for a particular therapy, such as a rate-responsive pacing therapy. The patient metrics can be used to identify patients at an elevated risk of death. Methods and systems to identify therapy indications or at-risk patients are provided. In an example, a patient risk profile can be adjusted, such as in response to an identified patient heart rate variability or heart rate variation. In an example, a rate-responsive pacing mode can be used to adjust the patient risk profile.
