  • Publication number: 20150298083
Abstract: The invention relates to a portable mixing platform for producing a heat-transfer fluid on site and on an industrial scale, said fluid consisting of a eutectic mixture of diphenyl (DP) and diphenyl oxide (DPO). The platform includes a device that stores DPO in liquid state, a device for supplying DP in solid state, a mixing device in which both components are mixed in liquid state and in the right amount for forming a eutectic mixture, and a device for inerting and treating gases which maintains the DPO and mixing devices under inert atmosphere, as well as drawing the gases vented from both devices to pass said gases through an activated-carbon filter prior to expelling same into the atmosphere. The present invention also relates to the method for producing the eutectic mixture of DP and DPO using the described portable mixing platform.

  • Publication number: 20150241135
Abstract: Thermal storage system and its charging and discharging process using a heat-transfer fluid. The system includes a phase change storage material contained in a casing that is penetrated by heat exchanger tubes (3), preferably vertical ones, connected at their lower end with at least one lower chamber (62) via lower sub-chambers (62?) which include a series of injectors (9) for enabling the heat-transfer fluid to be inserted in gas form; at the upper end, these tubes (3) connect via upper sub-chambers (61?) with at least one upper chamber (61) which in turn is connected to a boiler (1) from which downpipes (8) extend via which heat-transfer fluid in liquid form circulates, located outside of the casing, connecting the aforementioned boiler (1) to the lower chamber (62), which enables the natural circulation of the heat-transfer fluid within the system.

  • Publication number: 20140352304
Abstract: A concentrating solar power plant utilizes two heat transfer fluids. A first heat transfer fluid is heated in a field of concentrating solar collectors. A second heat transfer fluid is heated through a heat exchanger using heat imparted from the first heat transfer fluid. The second heat transfer fluid is then further heated, for example in a second field of concentrating solar collectors, and power is generated utilizing thermal energy extracted from the second heat transfer fluid. The second heat transfer fluid may be a solar salt, and may thus have a higher working temperature than the first heat transfer fluid. The power plant may realize the power generation efficiency improvements offered by utilizing a high temperature working fluid, while at least some of the plant does not require backup heating to protect against freezing events.

  • Publication number: 20120138849
Abstract: Composite material for storing heat energy at high temperatures (225° C. to 488° C.) formed by a porous carbon structure at least partially filled with LiOH/KOH, wherein a large amount of heat energy may be stored or released very quickly. The carbon structure is characterised by a high volumetric thermal conductivity, a low density, a highly interconnected porosity and a relatively high modulus of elasticity. The significant properties of LiOH/KOH mixtures are: a large amount of energy involved in full melting/crystallisation, a fairly low relative volume expansion upon melting and fairly low subcooling. The main advantages of the resulting composites are a very high energy density, a relatively low volume expansion, highly enhanced heat transfer, thermoadaptability, stability and insignificant hysteresis.
