  • Patent number: 9331568
Abstract: A power control device can generate control signals to control operation of power sources. At least one of the control signals may be referenced to an internally provided reference voltage or an externally provided reference voltage. Additional control signals control operation of load switches that can be connected to the power sources to provide secondary sources of power. The load switches can be turned in a gradual manner at rates that depend on the power sources to which they are connected. The outputs of the load switches can be monitored for overvoltage and undervoltage conditions relative to the power sources to which they are connected.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 15, 2013
Date of Patent: May 3, 2016
    Assignee: QUALCOMM Incorporated
Inventors: Crown Sen Shieh, Abid Hussain

  • Patent number: 9219372
Abstract: Disclosed is a battery charging circuit having several operating modes include boost and buck mode, and forward and reverse mode. A power train and a current sensing block may share power transistors thus reducing the number of space-consuming power devices in the circuit. The current sensing block may indicate output current based only a sensed input current, and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 6933710
Abstract: Improved soft start techniques for control loops that regulate DC/DC converter circuits are provided. An improved soft start circuit provides a varying voltage at the output of an error amplifier in the control loop during the start-up phase of the DC/DC converter. The varying voltage generated by an improved soft start circuit is related to the amplitude of the saw-tooth ramp signal that controls the switching duty cycle. The varying voltage generated by an improved soft start circuit is also related to the switching frequency of the DC/DC converter. These features allow the duty cycle of the DC/DC converter to gradually increase from zero during power-on. An effective soft start function is provided for DC/DC converters that have a variable switching frequency or a variable saw-tooth ramp signal.
