Abstract: A system and method for displaying sticky notes on a phone are provided. The system for displaying sticky notes on a phone includes a processing system and a controller. The processing system includes a processor that is coupled to a display icon and user input device, to enter and display the sticky notes on the phone. The controller classifies the entered sticky notes on the basis of the action to be performed on them. These sticky notes may be classified, based on user identification associated with a multi-user phone.

Abstract: A system for monitoring connectivity status includes network traffic transport entities and an aggregation server. The network traffic transport entities transport network traffic and are able to monitor a portion of the network traffic, access one or more network traffic alert rules, apply the network traffic alert rules to the portion of the network traffic, and determine whether an alert is required based on the application of the network traffic alert rules. The network traffic transport entities are also able to, in response to a determination that an alert is required, generate an alert message. The aggregation server is able to maintain a connectivity status profile, receive the alert message from the network traffic transport entity, identify a matching one of the communication devices in the connectivity status profile, determine an updated network connectivity status for the matching communication device, and update the connectivity status for the matching communication device.

The system can identify one or more missing conference invitees, identify communication addresses for the missing conference invitees, and contact the missing conference invitees during a conference.

Abstract: In accordance with a particular embodiment of the present invention, a method using Quality of Service (QoS) information to influence a user's presence state is provided that includes the establishment of a virtual communication session between a first network device and a second network device. The virtual communication session emulates a communication session that may be established in the future. At least one QoS parameter associated with the virtual connection is monitored. Presence information is then provided to a first user that includes the QoS parameter.

Abstract: In accordance with a particular embodiment of the present invention, a method for providing security information associated with a prospective communication session to a user includes providing at least one communication network for the establishment of a prospective communication session between a first network device and a second network device. A security rating is assigned to the prospective communication session, and security information is provided to a user associated with the first network device that includes the security rating.

Abstract: Authenticating an endpoint using a STUN server includes facilitating a communication session between a first endpoint and a second endpoint over a network. A challenge request is sent to the second endpoint. The challenge request attempts to authenticate the second endpoint and includes an identification. The identification is associated with an expected response identification. A response to the challenge request is received from the second endpoint. The response has an actual response identification. The received response is verified to establish whether the second endpoint is legitimate. The second endpoint is legitimate if the actual response identification includes the expected response identification.

Abstract: A system for storing information in a network. The system includes one or more network elements and a message adapted for transfer between the one or more network elements. A mechanism selectively augments the message with information pertaining to a state associated with the one or more network elements. In one embodiment, the system includes space within the message for accommodating one or more state vias containing the state information. One or more computers associated with the one or more network elements are adapted to update the message with state information pertaining to each of the one or more network elements that receives the message via the network.

Abstract: A system and method allowing control of VoIP communications by configuring a Network Address Translator (NAT) is provided. In a first NAT configuration, such a port-restricted NAT, peer-to-peer Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications are permitted between a VoIP originator and a receiver. In a second NAT configuration, such as a symmetrical NAT, peer-to-peer communications are not possible without further cooperation of the NAT. In this manner, an entity that has control of the NAT, such as an ISP, is able to have a degree of control over traffic using network resources such as bandwidth.

Abstract: A method and system for managing communication in an emergency communication network is described. The emergency communication network receives a plurality of radio messages from a plurality of channels. The incoming radio messages sometimes overlap in time. Incoming radio messages can be prioritized and played back on the basis of the priority and the time of receipt. In case of overlap of the incoming radio messages in time, the radio message with the highest priority is played first, while the remaining radio messages are stored in a queue. The queue is formed again on the basis of priority. The stored radio messages are played subsequent to the completion of the radio message with the higher priority.

Abstract: A method for providing a conference service using speaker selection includes hosting a conference between a plurality of endpoints and receiving from the plurality of endpoints a plurality of media streams. The plurality of media streams each include a power indicator. The method includes normalizing the power indicators to determine a normalized power indicator for each of the plurality of media streams and selecting, based on the normalized power indicators of the plurality of media streams, a first number of the plurality of media streams for processing into a conference stream. The method also includes processing the selected first number of the plurality of media streams into the conference stream and communicating the conference stream to at least some of the plurality of endpoints.

The method also includes receiving a request to block communication of the at least one media stream to a first endpoint of the plurality of endpoints and blocking communication of the at least one media stream to the first endpoint.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for presence-based management in a communication network includes, using IM, discovering one or more network devices in a communication network. The network devices couple two or more endpoints to each other and enable communication between a first one of the endpoints and one or more second ones of the endpoints. The method also includes, using IM, obtaining presence information on the discovered network devices from the discovered network devices and, using the presence information on the discovered network devices from the discovered network devices, maintaining presence data associated with the discovered network devices.
