  • Patent number: 11965564
Abstract: A clutch for a rotary shaft includes an annular pressure chamber with a sleeve surface engaging a surface to drivingly connect the shaft to the clutch, and further includes a trigger device and a channel system activatable by the trigger device upon a relative angular movement between the shaft and the chamber to release the shaft from the housing. The trigger device has a cam wheel having a constant first radius across a first angular interval and a second, smaller, radius across a second angular interval. The cam wheel is supported on an envelope surface within the first angular interval and rotating in relation to the envelope surface when the shaft rotates in relation to the housing. When a contact point reaches the second angular interval, the cam wheel is displaced to activate said channel system.

  • Patent number: 6908393
Abstract: A torque-limiting coupling device including a cylindrical sleeve and a cylindrical shaft in radially tensioned frictional engagement for transferring torque up to a torque limit that corresponds to the radial tension and at which the sleeve begins to rotate relative to the shaft. The device also includes at least one pump mechanism which is adapted to be driven to pump liquid to the interface between co-acting surfaces of the sleeve and shaft upon relative rotation between the sleeve and the shaft. The shaft includes a surface layer that defines one of the co-acting surfaces and that is made of a material, e.g. tombak, whose plasticizing limit is lower than the plasticizing limit of the material in the co-acting surface of the sleeve. The surface layer may include cavities which enable the surface layer to take a smaller radial thickness after plasticization thereof.

  • Patent number: 6761256
Abstract: A clutch arrangement for rapid disengagement of two elements in a transmission system when a chosen torque is exceeded. The first element is a conical shaft end that carries a corresponding sleeve which, in turn, carries externally at its ends two mutually separated ball bearings with a force transmission ring disposed therebetween. The second element, an annular force transmission body, surrounds and is carried by the ball bearings and includes a pressurisable hydraulic chamber which, when pressurised, causes a reduction in the inner surface diameter of the body so that the body is brought into force transmitting engagement with the outer surface of the ring. The sleeve carries a dogging element which is adapted to act on an element carried by the body for depressurising the hydraulic chamber upon relative rotation between the body and the sleeve such that, when the chosen torque is exceeded resulting in the relative rotation, the chamber is depressurised, and the ring and the body pass free from each other.

  • Patent number: 5069320
Abstract: A torque-limiting clutch arrangement which comprises a cylindrical part (3) forming part of one clutch element and having shrink-fitted thereon a cylindrical sleeve (5) which forms part of the other clutch element. The clutch arrangement also includes a pump which when one clutch element (3) rotates relative to the other clutch element (5), when the torque on the clutch exceeds a given value, functions to pump oil into the domain of engagement between the cylindrical part (3) and the sleeve (5), so as to form a hydrostatic layer therebetween, the hydrostatic layer essentially negating the friction between the engagement surfaces while the relative movement continues.

  • Patent number: 5051018
Abstract: A coupling for coupling together two mutually coaxial, rotatable parts, comprising a substantially cylindrical coupling member which is intended to be mounted between the parts to be coupled together and which is expandable both radially outwards and radially inwards so as to exert on the parts a coupling pressure through the intermediary of the coupling member. The coupling member incorporates a pressure chamber which is intended to be supplied with pressure fluid for expansion of the coupling member and which is provided with a pressure relief device which is triggered upon relative rotation of the aforementioned parts. The coupling member is configured to exert a greater coupling force on a first of the aforementioned parts than on the other of these parts, and the pressure relief device is intended to be activated upon relative rotation between the first part and the coupling member, but to permit rotation between the other of the parts and the coupling member.
