  • Patent number: 4963154
Abstract: Acetrabular cup as part of a hip joint prosthesis is composed of an outer support ring and a plastic inner socket insertable into the support ring. The acetabular cup includes a covering cap provided with at least one metal surface which covers the part of the inner socket not surrounded by the support ring and whose metal outer contour supplements the socket to give it the spherical shape of an essentially closed hemisphere or spherical cap.

  • Patent number: 4919678
Abstract: A hip joint prosthesis includes a first member having a shaft portion and a lateral arm extending toward a joint, the lateral arm being sloped in the direction of the joint and being adapted to receive a joint ball. The lateral arm has significantly greater length in a region adjacent the shaft and measured therealong than its corresponding thickness. A second member can be pushed onto the shaft portion supporting the lateral arm. This second member receives a distal end of the first member, with the second member essentially completely receiving the shaft portion supporting the lateral arm. The first member is joined at its proximal end to a proximal end of the second member. The lateral arm extends through a slit portion in the second member such that the region of the lateral arm adjacent the shaft portion is disposed within the slit portion.

  • Patent number: 4878917
Abstract: A modular assembly for a shaft prosthesis having a head part and an end part, of which one part has a conical protrusion and the other part has a conical bore, wherein between these two parts at least one intermediate part adapted to the protrusion and/or bore is provided, wherein the head part (1) and/or at least one intermediate part (5) has a through bore (16) and the end part (9) or an intermediate part (5) has a bore (17 or 18 ) having means (20) for releasable engagement for the sake of transmitting a force in the axial direction wherein when the parts (1, 5 and/or 9) have been joined the bores (16-18) are axially aligned with respect to one another in the direction of the shaft, and a tension rod (15) is provided with and is connectable with an engagement element for releasable engagement, and when the prosthesis parts have been joined together projects beyond the head part (1) at least when the head and end parts have been joined together.

  • Patent number: 4842606
Abstract: A bone implant, in particular as a shaft-type prosthesis, which has a mirror-symmetrical shape is proposed, wherein for adaptation to bone regions of the left or right half of the body that in themselves are not mirror-symmetrical, the part having mirror-symmetrical shape forms a basic element, and a separately shaped additional element is provided that is joined or can be joined to the basic element in such a manner that a bone implant that is not mirror-symmetrical and is usable only on the left or right side of the body is produced.

  • Patent number: 4676797
Abstract: A resection prosthesis assembly unit including a head member, an end member and an intermediate member between the head and end members, of which one member is provided with a conical pin and another member is provided with a conical bore, with the latter two members being provided with respective first surfaces which extend transversely to an insertion direction and which face one another and are spaced apart to define a recess when the two members are connected together, one of the two members being further provided with a second surface extending in the insertion direction, and the recess being provided to receive a wedge insertable into the recess to bear against the first surfaces for forcing the two members apart while the forces exerted by the wedge are absorbed by the first surfaces and the wedge is guided by the second surface.

  • Patent number: 4595393
Abstract: In a hip joint prosthesis having an elongated hollow shaft, a neck portion, a ball joint connected to the neck portion and a detachable mounting ring coupling the shaft to the neck portion; and wherein the shaft is provided with local sections of weakened material, the material is adapted, with respect to its deformation characteristics, to those of the surrounding bone region and the adaptation of the longitudinal rigidity and/or resistance to bending of the shaft is effected by the targeted provision of sections of weakened material.
