  • Patent number: 7032835
Abstract: A nozzle system includes a multiple of circumferentially distributed convergent flaps, divergent flaps and inter-flap seals which circumscribe an engine centerline and define the radial outer boundary of a gas path. Each divergent flap includes a multiple of cooling channels with respective intakes and outlets. As the nozzle transitions between positions, the divergent flap seals move relative a divergent flap longitudinal axis to modulate the cooling airflow which enters the separate intakes.

  • Patent number: 6935117
Abstract: A gas turbine engine is piloted with a pilot flow of fuel delivered to a combustor as a liquid. A first additional flow of the fuel is also delivered to the combustor as a liquid. A second additional flow of the fuel is vaporized and delivered to the combustor as a vapor. A fuel injector may have passageways associated with each of the three flows.

  • Patent number: 6357672
Abstract: Brush seals formed in hemispherical rings are supported to the end of the convergent nozzle of the each of the clam shells of a multi-axis vector thrust nozzle of a gas turbine engine powering aircraft. The brush seal may be arced or straight and bear against the spherical surface of the collar formed on the end of the tail pipe and is mounted so that high pressure forces the bristles against the backing plate of the seals.

  • Patent number: 5077969
Abstract: A plurality of gas diffusion openings (24) direct film cooling air (26) along the surface of sheet (20). Each opening (24) includes a baffle (28) extending into gas stream (10) defining gas chamber (30) with outlet opening (32). Cool air inlet opening (34) meters and directs impingement air against the upstream end (36) of the baffle. cooling air discharge is parallel to the surface to be cooled and the baffle directs the upstream hot air flow.
