In some embodiments, the helmet includes a helmet shell having a helmet shell edge and/or a mounting location for mounting an accessory to the helmet shell. A material that is adherent to the helmet shell may be sprayed onto the helmet shell edge of the helmet shell to form a trim. Alternatively, the material may be sprayed onto a portion of the helmet shell associated with either a mounting location for mounting an accessory or a position for a mounted accessory.

Abstract: A helmet assembly comprising a helmet shell, a fit system detachably coupled to the helmet shell, and a retention system coupled to the helmet shell independent of the fit system. The fit system is configured to stabilize the helmet shell on the wearer's head. The retention system is configured to retain the helmet shell on the wearer's head and to stabilize the helmet shell on the wearer's head when the fit system is removed from the helmet shell. The retention system may include a stabilizer configured to extend in a circumferential direction about a rear portion of the wearer's head to stabilize the helmet shell on the wearer's head. The stabilizer may couple segments of the retention system together so as to restrict separation of the segments from each other.

The mount provides frontal bracket portions for mounting accessories. The helmet assembly provides a helmet shell with a curved shape having a surrounding reinforcing ridge. A reeling system is provided for adjusting front and lower chin straps. Other improvements in helmet assemblies are also disclosed.

Abstract: Systems and techniques for detecting and monitoring for traumatic brain injury and recovery are described. A system can include a photoplethysmography (PPG) system with a robust PPG sensor and a monitoring system with a detection and monitoring module. The detection and monitoring module, when executed, directs the monitoring system to: extract a pulse rate waveform from a signal from the PPG system containing information about a patient's heart; determine a pulse rate variability for the pulse rate waveform; and compare the pulse rate variability to a reference to determine a brain injury status.

Abstract: A helmet retention system having a first side strap system configured to connect to a first side of a helmet and a second side strap system configured to connect to an opposite second side of a helmet is provided. A chin cup and a chin cup connecting mechanism are provided. The chin cup connecting mechanism is configured to connect the first and second side strap systems in an area about the user's chin and to vary the amount of tension in the system between at least two predefined tension states. Strap adjusters provide a cam design for tensioning the straps and retaining the adjustors fixed to the straps at the desired adjustment under external force applied to the straps. Anchors provide secure mounting of the straps to the helmet.
