Patent number: 6838997Abstract: A plastic mounting plate closes a electrical box which delivers wires to an alarm unit or emergency light or the like. The alarm unit is mounted to the mounting plate by a snap connection and a tab-in-slot connection, without requiring the use of a tool. The mounting plate is connected to the electrical box by screws which engage threaded holes provided by the electrical box. The mounting plate can be mounted to either a single-wide electrical box or a double-wide (4×4) electrical box and provides corresponding holes for connection to either box. An alternate mounting plate for a single-wide electrical box is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2000Date of Patent: January 4, 2005Assignee: Honeywell International, Inc.Inventor: Curtis R. Davidson

Patent number: 6522261Abstract: A multi-candela output device for indicating alarm conditions has an output section, visible after installation, and a mounting section not visible after installation. A candela output level can be set by positioning a manually adjustable member on the mounting section. An indicator of the setting is visible on the output section.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2001Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Assignee: Pittway CorporationInventors: Daniel C. Scheffler, Curtis R. Davidson, Joel D. Kwasny

Patent number: 6133843Abstract: A plastic mounting plate closes a junction box which delivers wires to an alarm unit or emergency light or the like. The mounting plate is connected to the junction box by screws which engage threaded holes provided by the junction box. The mounting plate can be mounted to either a single-wide junction box or a double-wide junction box and provides corresponding holes for connection to either box. An alternate mounting plate for a single-wide junction box is also provided. An alarm device can be connected to the mounting plate directly by screws or by a combination of a single screw and a tab which is received into a slot onto the mounting plate. The mounting plate can be color-coded for a particular alarm service, such as fire, weather warnings, or other emergency condition.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1997Date of Patent: October 17, 2000Assignee: Pittway CorporationInventor: Curtis R. Davidson

Patent number: 6127935Abstract: A system for mounting two alarm-indicating or condition-sensing modules side-by-side onto a junction box provides installation flexibility to locate a particular module on the right or left side of the respective other module. A loudspeaker module can be centered on the junction box and a strobe light module can be placed either on the right side or the left side of the junction box by 180.degree. rotation of a common elongated rectangular frame and 180.degree. rotation of the strobe light module with respect to the frame. The loudspeaker module includes fastener receiving holes aligned with fastener engagement holes of a standard 4".times.4" junction box for securing the loudspeaker module and the common frame with the strobe light module attached thereto, to the junction box. The frame includes a recessed region to receive and support the strobe light module.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1999Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Pittway CorporationInventors: Curtis R. Davidson, Douglas J. Anderson

Patent number: 6057778Abstract: A family of covers having identical indented base regions for receiving a plurality of diverse alarm indicating and/or condition-sensing modules thereon. The alarm indicating modules each have a common "footprint" for being snugly received into the indented base region of each cover. A family of covered modules thus assembled, achieves an architecturally pleasing, universal design, and reduces tool and manufacturing costs by producing common parts among the varied alarm indicating devices.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1999Date of Patent: May 2, 2000Assignee: Pittway CorporationInventor: Curtis R. Davidson

Patent number: 5200624Abstract: A wide angle passive infrared energy sensor includes an infrared transducer. Energy in the field of view which is essentially normal to the transducer impinges directly on the transducer which can in turn generate an electrical signal in response thereto. Radiant energy at the peripheral regions of the field of view, on the order of 90.degree. with respect to a center line normal to the detector, is parabolically reflected onto the detector.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1991Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Assignee: Pittway CorporationInventors: John T. Pederson, Jr., Curtis R. Davidson

Patent number: 4873469Abstract: A switch assembly actuated by passive infrared radiation for operating a light in a space, the switch assembly including an optical system which senses infrared radiation over a 180.degree. range in horizontal plane including two separate vertical fields of view, a generally horizontal "look-out" field and a vertical semi cone-shaped "look-down" sensing field for directing to a common sensing element passive infrared radiation produced by a person moving within the sensing field of the switch assembly, the sensing element connected to a control circuit which responsively turns on the light, maintains the light on while the person remains in the space, and turns the light off automatically when the person leaves the space. The switch assembly includes a one-piece optical shell enclosed within a housing which is adapted for installation in a conventional light switch box in room.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1987Date of Patent: October 10, 1989Assignee: Pittway CorporationInventors: William A. Young, Wai-Shing Ko, Curtis R. Davidson, Thomas Whitehurst
