  • Patent number: 6032686
Abstract: A cartridge valve 116 includes a fixed disk 80 and a movable disk 118 mounted in a housing 66. A lever 46 extends through a major opening 72 axially located at one end of the valve 116. The lever 46 is attached to a coupler 130 for facilitating movement of the movable disk 118 relative to the fixed disk 80 to control the flow and temperature of water passing through the valve 116. A flexible valve 144 is attached to the coupler 130 and, in normal use of the valve 116, prevents holes 136 formed therethrough from communicating with a passage formed through the movable disk 118. Air from the environment surrounding the valve 116 can enter the major opening 72, and upon the occurrence of a negative pressure in the water supply, will flex the valve 144 to allow air to enter the supply line to negate the undesirable effects thereof. In another cartridge valve 160, holes 166 are formed through the side wall of the housing 66 to provide further air communication through the holes 136 of the coupler 130.

  • Patent number: 5865473
Abstract: In a water flow system, a non-metallic liner 50 is placed within at least a portion of a passage 48 of a supporting metallic end body 38 to preclude contact between any water flowing through the system and the passage of the end body. The liner 50 includes a flared section 60 at a first end 54 thereof which engages a bevelled surface 49 of the end body 38 and is held there in sealing fashion by a cone washer 82 and a nut 84 threadedly coupled to the end body. At a location near a second end 56 of the liner 50, the liner is formed with a first stepped shoulder 62 which facilitates location of the liner within the passage 48 of the end body 38 at the second end of the liner. A second stepped shoulder 64 is formed on the liner 50 which provides a location for an O-ring 72 which engages an adjacent portion of the passage 48 of the end body to form a seal thereby.

  • Patent number: 5642755
Abstract: A faucet 30 includes a housing 32 having a base 34 and a spout 36. The base 34 and the spout 36 are each formed with an opening which communicate with each other to form an opening of the housing. A putty plate 54 is formed in a configuration similar to a configuration of the opening of the base 34. The putty plate is formed with a ledge 57 on which is formed a pair of spaced "L" shaped channels 80 and a locking tab 76 with a latch bar 78. A throat plate 104 is formed with a body 106 with a ledge 116 extending therefrom. The ledge 116 is formed with a pair of spaced tabs 118 and 120 extending from one side of the ledge and an elongated hole 122 formed in the ledge between the tabs. A pair of bosses 124 and 126 with holes 128 are formed in spaced portions of the body 106. The tabs 118 and 120 of the throat plate 104 are located in the channels 80 of the putty plate 54 and the latch bar 78 is located in the hole 122 to retain the throat plate with the putty plate as an assembly.

  • Patent number: 5566707
Abstract: A putty plate 30 is formed with an edge 32 in a continuous pattern to define the perimeter of the plate. A base wall of the putty plate 30 includes a floor 40 on one side of the plate 30 and a ceiling 78 on the other side of the plate. Holes 48, 60 and 62 are formed through the base wall. Four sets of ribs 52 are formed integrally from the floor 40 on the one side of the plate 30 while sets of ribs 84 are formed integrally from the ceiling 78 on the other side of the plate. Ribs 46 are formed about the holes 48 in a hexagonal configuration integrally from the floor 40 of the plate 30. Circular ribs 80 are formed about the holes 48 integrally from the ceiling 78 on the other side of the plate 30. A continuous groove 68 is formed in the base wall between the edge 32 and the ceiling 78 to define the perimeter of the ceiling. Two other putty plates 108 and 200 are formed with structure similar to the structure of the plate 30. The three putty plates 30, 108 and 200 are composed of a nylon material.
