  • Publication number: 20080066221
Abstract: A toilet seat lifting and lowering device, i.e., one that does not require use of or touching with the hands is disclosed. The invention comprises several improved embodiments for not only making the lifting and lowering assembly more simplified but also for counterbalancing the seat and lid against the pedal. In preferred embodiments the invention comprises a torque transfer assembly comprising two interacting cams that can, depending upon the embodiment used, designed to be self limiting in their rotational travel such that the arc rotation of the seat travels from horizontal to about vertical. The apparatus further has a friction-regulated tension assembly that acts to attenuate the rate of drop of the seat while a separate friction structural arrangement between the seat and lid provide for a differential lowering rate for the lid thereby eliminating inherent slamming down of the lid onto the seat.

  • Patent number: 7331067
Abstract: A toilet seat lifting and lowering device for pivoting the seat to its raised position and for pivoting it back to its horizontal position without having to touch the seat. A first lever arm is rigidly attached at one end to a first part of a torque transfer mechanism and at its other end to a foot pedal and a second lever arm is rigidly attached at one end to a second part of the torque transfer mechanism and at its other end to the toilet seat. With the toilet seat in its horizontal position, a downward force on the pedal produces a rotation of the first part of the torque transfer mechanism which produces an opposite rotation of the second part of the torque transfer mechanism causing the toilet seat to pivot to its raised position. Lifting the pedal, preferably by providing an upward force under the pedal, lowers the seat to the horizontal position.

  • Patent number: 7168106
Abstract: A toilet seat lifter means is described, using a minimally simple lever and cam means with a counterweight balanced action arm. The device is adaptable to all standard toilets available today, an improved version of these inventor's prior invention. The new lifter offers a minimum number of moving parts and no springs or pulleys, is easier to manufacture and assemble, and possesses improvements to support the needs of disabled individuals.
