  • Publication number: 20240042747
Abstract: The invention features a reinforcement element including a continuous paper strip having a first side and a second side, a first adhesive composition disposed on at least one of the first side and second side. The invention further features a paper reinforced tape including a continuous paper strip, a continuous paper backing layer and a first adhesive composition disposed between the continuous paper strip and the continuous paper backing layer thereby adhering the continuous paper strip to the continuous paper backing layer. The paper reinforced tapes and reinforcement elements of this invention have improved repulpability, recyclability, compostability and biodegradability. Further, these reinforcement elements and paper reinforced tapes, despite being predominately paper, unexpectedly provide excellent container reinforcement properties and further can be used as opening tapes, closing tapes and carrying handles.

  • Publication number: 20180118407
Abstract: Disclosed herein are tape opening systems, containers, and methods to produce display-ready containers formed of paper-based substrates. The clean tear openings of the disclosed containers are accomplished through novel incorporations of monoaxiaily oriented films with directional tear properties. Also disclosed are closure and opening systems for multi-wall and polywoven pinch bottom open mouth bags using same monoaxially tearable films.

  • Patent number: 9764512
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for starting a strip material in a substrate processing machine wherein the machine is not stopped and/or operators do not have to reach into the running machine to start the strip material. Exemplary systems include a strip material guide apparatus including at least one guide arm and at least one gas stream generator configured to direct strip material from the guide arm into a substrate processing machine to join the strip material with one or more running substrates. The gas stream generator is operable to cause a leading end of a strip material dispensed from the guide arm to be conveyed via a gas stream toward the running substrates, such that the leading end of the strip material becomes engaged by the substrate processing machine and the strip material joins with the running substrate.

  • Patent number: 9340388
Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments of a tape splicing system for coupling a leading end of a staged tape to a trailing end of a running tape to form a continuous tape. The splicing system can comprise a connector having an opening for allowing the running tape to pass through, a leading end element having an opening for engaging the connector, and a trailing end element. The leading end element can be secured to the leading end of the staged tape and the trailing end element can be secured to the trailing end of the running tape. The connector can couple the leading end element to the trailing end element to splice the staged tape to the running tape.

  • Publication number: 20140261988
Abstract: Embodiments of a reinforcing tape for preventing or minimizing structural instability of corrugated paper board that may be exposed to an aqueous liquid are disclosed. The reinforcing tape comprises (i) an extruded mesh substrate including a plurality of parallel thermoplastic polymer elements oriented in a first direction and a plurality of parallel thermoplastic polymer elements oriented in a second direction, wherein the thermoplastic polymer elements are spaced from 0.5 cm to 5 cm apart; and/or (ii) a nonwoven substrate comprising a plurality of randomly-oriented thermoplastic polymer fibrous elements. The reinforcing tape has a machine-direction trapezoidal tear strength of at least 2.3 kg. Embodiments of a method for using the reinforcing tape also are disclosed.
