  • Patent number: 5971945
Abstract: The ulnar support splint is formed of a continuous spiral having a first end, a midpoint and a second end. The splint can be made of a semi-rigid material being molded to the user's hand. The splint provides lateral support to a user's fingers through at least three points of contact, including the ulnar medial side of at least one finger, the web space between the user's thumb and metacarpophalangeal joint of the user's index finger and the user's wrist distal the user's ulnar styloid. A method for providing lateral support to the fingers using the splint applies pressure at the least three points creating counterbalancing pressure points.

  • Patent number: 4932396
Abstract: An adjustable splint made of silver or gold alloys for stabilizing in extension or realigning the interphalangeal joints of the fingers and thumb consisting of two elliptical rings joined by an elliptical spacer. The individually sized proximal and distal elliptical rings are worn about the fingers on either side of the joint being splinted and disposed at an angle with respect to the axis of the finger. The rings are joined by an elliptical spacer which is placed over the dorsal surface of the joint and sized to distribute and spread the pressure uniformly and comfortably over the surface of the joint. The spacer acts in conjunction with the proximal and distal rings to hold the finger in varying degrees of extension, depending on the adjustment of the splint. The splint may be rotated 90.degree., placing the spacer on the lateral border of a joint to realign an angularly deviated joint.

  • Patent number: 4770166
Abstract: An elliptical finger ring splint comprising two elliptically shaped rings joined at an apex which, when worn, is positioned directly beneath a finger joint when the palm is turned downwards. The tops of the rings are spread such that the planes of the rings form a V, with the top of one ring impinging upon the top of the more distal phalanx of the finger, and the top of the other ring impinging upon the top of the more proximal phalanx, when the finger is fully extended without hyperextension. The rings are made of a rigid but slightly deformable material which in the preferred embodiment is silver or gold to give an attractive appearance while retaining and enhancing the therapeutic orthotic values. The elliptical shapes permit the apex to be positioned directly beneath the finger joint with the rings canted at approximately a 45.degree. angle to the axis of the finger thus impinging upon the tops of the adjacent phalanges urging the finger towards flexion and inhibiting hyperextension.
