  • Patent number: 10758396
Abstract: A 3D printed cast or splint for application to a patient's body to immobilize a body part includes first and second shell portions configured to conform to at least a portion of the body part. The first shell portion has a distal end, a proximal end, opposing interfacing edges, a plurality of venting holes and a first engagement mechanism positioned proximate one of the opposing interfacing edges. A reinforcement portion extends between the proximal and distal ends. The second shell portion has a distal end, a proximal end, opposing interfacing edges, a plurality of venting holes and a second engagement mechanism positioned proximate one of the opposing interfacing edges. The first engagement mechanism interacts with the second engagement mechanism in a mounted configuration to facilitate mounting of the first shell portion to the second shell portion.

  • Patent number: 7706152
Abstract: A power conversion unit and method for converting DC power. The power conversion unit includes a self-oscillating device configured to convert a DC voltage into a self-oscillating alternating current AC signal, a transformer connected to the self-oscillating device and configured to transform the self-oscillating AC signal into a transformed AC signal, and an AC-to-DC converter configured to convert the transformed AC signal into a DC signal. The method generates a self-oscillating current, transforms the self-oscillating current into a transformed AC signal, and converts the transformed AC signal into a DC signal.

    Assignee: Research Triangle Institute
Inventors: Bing Shen, Robert Hendry, Cynthia Watkins, Rama Venkatasubramanian
  • Patent number: 7679203
Abstract: A method of forming a thermoelectric device may include forming a plurality of islands of thermoelectric material on a deposition substrate. The plurality of islands of thermoelectric material may be bonded to a header substrate so that the plurality of islands are between the deposition substrate and the header substrate. More particularly, the islands of thermoelectric material may be epitaxial islands of thermoelectric material having crystal structures aligned with a crystal structure of the deposition substrate. Related structures are also discussed.
