  • Patent number: 4952745
Abstract: Improved operation of the ACR process is achieved by regulating the reactions within a small area in the combustion feedstock mixing zone, "Scorch Zone", by the addition of steam or other fluid such as ethane at the point of feed injection.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 4, 1988
Date of Patent: August 28, 1990
Assignee: Union Carbide Chemicals and Plastics Company Inc.
Inventors: Cyril Tellis, Saburo Hori, David Milks
  • Patent number: 4540552
Abstract: A process for the removal of acid gases which are reactive with ethylene oxide from a gas mixture containing carbon dioxide, comprises contacting the gas mixture with ethylene carbonate containing sufficient amount of ethylene oxide, whereby the ethylene oxide reacts chemically with the acid gases to produce reaction products which are more easily removable from the gas mixture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 24, 1984
Date of Patent: September 10, 1985
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
Inventors: Bernard C. Ream, Cyril Tellis
  • Patent number: 4299802
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for reducing the carbonyl sulfide content of a gaseous stream which has a concentration of carbonyl sulfide of from at least 1 to about 100 parts per million, by volume, which comprises providing an absorbent bed wherein the absorbent comprises zinc oxide and contains no more than 5%, by weight, of an oxide of an alkli or alkaline earth metal, and contacting said process stream with said adsorbent bed at a temperature of from about ambient to 250.degree. C. for a period of time sufficient to remove at least 90% of the carbonyl sulfide content of said gaseous stream.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1980
Date of Patent: November 10, 1981
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
    Inventor: Cyril Tellis
  • Patent number: 4271133
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for reducing the hydrogen cyanide content of a gaseous stream which comprises providing an adsorbent bed wherein the adsorbent comprises zinc oxide and contains no more than 5%, by weight, of an oxide of an alkali or alkaline earth metal, and contacting said process stream with said adsorbent bed at a temperature of from about ambient to about 350.degree. C. for a period of time sufficient to reduce the concentration of hydrogen cyanide in said gaseous stream to the desired value.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1980
Date of Patent: June 2, 1981
    Assignee: Union Carbide Corporation
    Inventor: Cyril Tellis
