  • Patent number: 4984672
Abstract: A passenger conveyance tread member, which may be for an escalator or a travelling road, has a tread surface with lateral edges having surfaces which slope towards skirt guards adjacent the lateral edges. The sloping surfaces and skirt guards define a downwardly narrowing gap so that the tendency of e.g. shoes to get seriously stuck in the gap is reduced. The sloping surface may be on a side-most cleat of the tread. An existing conveyance may be adapted by providing its tread members with such sloping surfaces at their edges, e.g. as an insert strip.

  • Patent number: 4798274
Abstract: A balustrade comprises a deck cover disposed on the opposite side to a plurality of steps, a transparent balustrade panel supported by the deck cover, a handrail, a handrail guide frame, secured to an upper edge of the balustrade panel for guiding the handrail moving in synchronism with the plurality of steps, and an illumination device attached directly to the outside surface of the balustrade panel so as to be spaced from the handrail to leave transparent between the handrail and the illumination device. The balustrade further is provided with a supporting pole for supporting the illumination device and containing therein lead wires of the illumination device. The supporting pole has an U-shaped opening and secures an entrance prevention fence with the edge being inserted in the U-shaped opening.

  • Patent number: 4674619
Abstract: A passenger conveyor including body frame is formed of a main frame including upper and lower horizontal sections and an inclined section therebetween, and upper and lower auxiliary frames mounted on the upper and lower horizontal sections of the main frame, respectively. A front side of the upper auxiliary frame and the upper horizontal section forms a recessed portion, and a driving device for driving handrail is provided in the recessed portion so that the handrail driving device is positioned over the surface of the upper horizontal section and the width of the passenger conveyor is reduced without changing the height of the handrail driving device. The lower auxiliary frame and the inclined section of the main frame also form a recessed portion and a tension device is disposed in the recessed portion so as to be disposed over the main frame, whereby the passenger conveyor is reduced in width by 100-150 mm.

  • Patent number: 4666028
Abstract: The balustrade comprises glass panels arranged on opposite sides of the passenger conveyor steps circulating endlessly, guide frames each of which has a U-shaped recess and is mounted on and bonded to the upper edge portion of the glass panel by adhesive, with the upper edge portion being inserted in the U-shaped recess so that both ends of the glass panel project from the ends of the guide frame, joint frames each of which has the same cross-section as the guide frame and is disposed in a gap formed between the adjacent guides by arranging the glass panel with the guide frame in an end-to-end relation, coupling plates disposed on both sides of the guide frames and joint frame to sandwich them and means for fastening the coupling plates. The guide frames and the joint frame, which support handrails circulating endlessly, are firmly and easily secured to the glass panels with simple construction.

  • Patent number: 4374558
Abstract: Steps of a passenger conveyor are designed to include a tread with a multiplicity of cleats and grooves disposed in alignment with teeth of comb plates at the entrance and exit areas. A riser is connected to one end of the tread and frames attached to other ends of the tread. The t read is formed of steel sheet and has cleats and grooves in the center and planar surface portions at the edges. Side pieces extending in the direction of movement of the steps are adjustably attached to the tread.

  • Patent number: 4362232
Abstract: A step for a passenger conveyor has a tread formed with a plurality of cleats defining grooves therebetween and adapted to mesh with comb-shaped teeth provided on step-on and step-out landings, and side frames on which the tread is mounted. The tread is provided with flat and cleat-less mounting sections each having a width greater than the width of the groove between each adjacent pair of cleats. The tread is removably connected at the mounting sections to the side frame members. The flat mounting sections are covered with covering members removably mounted on the tread.

  • Patent number: 4295556
Abstract: A passenger conveyor has a plurality of steps each including a treadboard provided with a number of cleats and grooves defined therebetween, the cleats being adapted to mesh with teeth of a comb-like plate at each terminal of the conveyor, and a frame to which the treadboard is secured; handrails adapted to run in synchronism with the travel of the steps; handrail frames disposed beneath the handrails; and balustrade panels. The treadboard is formed of a corrugated stainless steel sheet and is reinforced by at least one reinforcement member attached to the underside of the treadboard. The handrail frame is formed by first and second members both made of stainless steel sheets and having U-shaped cross-sections. The first and second members are welded together in back-to-back relationship so that the open side of the first member is directed toward the handrail while the open side of the second member is directed toward the balustrade panel.
