  • Patent number: 10365670
Abstract: Electrical and electromechanical devices often require maintaining a specific temperature, or a narrow range or temperatures, during operation. An assembly regulates the temperature of a device by providing a variable thermal resistance between the device and a heatsink. The device can be mounted to a base having a high thermal resistance, the base thermally isolating the device from the heatsink. At low environmental temperatures, the base enables the device to rise to its operating temperature as a result of the device's waste heat, and with no or minimal use of a heater. As the environmental temperature increases, a working fluid, having a low thermal resistance, undergoes thermal expansion to fill a portion of a volume in the base between the device and the heat sink, lowering the thermal resistance between the device and the heatsink to maintain the device at the required operating temperature.

  • Patent number: 10345096
Abstract: This disclosure presents a method of measuring the strain response of a test material remotely by optical devices using a thin multi-layer assembly, called an optical strain gauge, which is attached directly to the test specimen by pair of adhesive patches built into the assembly. The optical strain gauge assembly attaches quickly and easily by just pressing it onto the specimen by virtue of the two pressure-activated adhesive patches. There is typically no surface preparation necessary for the test specimen. The spatial separation between the two patches adhered to the specimen surface serves to establish an initial gauge length for calculating strain by measuring the stress induced changes to this separation when a load is applied to the test specimen.

  • Patent number: 10327834
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an end effector assembly includes providing first and second jaw members moveable relative to one another about a pivot between a first, spaced-apart position and a second, approximated position. One of the first and second jaw members includes a cavity defined therein and the other of the first and second jaw members includes a stop member configured to be inserted into the cavity. A gap-setting gauge is grasped between the first and second jaw members to define a gap-distance between the jaw members equivalent to a thickness of the gap-setting gauge. • Patent number: 10282296
Abstract: Embodiments of an invention a processor architecture are disclosed. In an embodiment, a processor includes a decoder, an execution unit, a coherent cache, and an interconnect. The decoder is to decode an instruction to zero a cache line. The execution unit is to issue a write command to initiate a cache line sized write of zeros. The coherent cache is to receive the write command, to determine whether there is a hit in the coherent cache and whether a cache coherency protocol state of the hit cache line is a modified state or an exclusive state, to configure a cache line to indicate all zeros, and to issue the write command toward the interconnect. The interconnect is to, responsive to receipt of the write command, issue a snoop to each of a plurality of other coherent caches for which it must be determined if there is a hit.

  • Patent number: 10279916
Abstract: Passenger seat armrests and consoles have laterally translating armrest doors that open and close to allow for deployment and stowage of tray tables. The armrest doors may be guided through their translation by slides or a linkage that controls their motion. The armrest doors may also translate in two-dimensions, incorporating a vertical translation as well as a lateral translation. The resulting motion allows for better placement of the deployable tray tables within the armrest or console and a reduction in wasted space. The passenger seat armrests may also incorporate cocktail trays that can be integrated into the armrest doors or the armrest or console itself.
