  • Patent number: 7451989
Abstract: A seal has first and second spring elements each having first and second surfaces along a bellows cross-section and extending between first and second edges. A spreader is secured to an endplate between the first edges of the first and second elements to capture first edge portions of the first and second elements.

Date of Patent: November 18, 2008
    Assignee: Parker-Hannifin Corporation
Inventors: Kenneth W. Cornett, D. Gregory More, Stephen S. Stone, Paul A. Dudzinski
  • Patent number: 7152864
Abstract: It is disclosed a seal assembly (5) which comprises a layered structure. It consists of a first layer (9, 12) of a base material, a second layer (10) of thermal insulating material on top of the base material and a third layer (11, 12) of base material or an oxide resistant material on top of the second layer (10) of thermal insulation. The inventive seal assembly (5) described herein can be arranged between combustor liner segments (2).

    Assignee: Alstom Technology Ltd.
Inventors: Peter G. Amos, Gordon McColvin, D. Gregory More
  • Patent number: 6968615
Abstract: A metallic seal includes a cold formed substrate layer and one or more additional layers. At least one of the layers offers improved resistance to high temperature stress relaxation.

  • Patent number: 6932353
Abstract: A seal has a metallic body having a convoluted cross-section extending between first and second ends and a first generally interior surface extending between the first and second ends and a second generally exterior surface extending between the first and second ends. An adhesive is located in one or more locations on at least one of the surfaces, the adhesive holding the body in a longitudinally contracted condition. There are related methods of manufacture. In related methods of use, the adhesive is caused to release, allowing the seal to expand toward the relaxed condition.

  • Publication number: 20040239053
Abstract: In forming a bellows-like seal from a welded metallic band, improved mechanical properties may be obtained by welding the ends of a strip forming the band at an angle off-normal to the band rims (and seal axis). The angle may be a single angle (i.e., with a straight weld) or there may be multiple angles (e.g., with a serpentine or other convoluted weld). The weld may extend through the band normal to surfaces of the band or at an angle off-normal. The metallic band may comprise an oxide dispersion strengthened alloy.

  • Publication number: 20030127807
Abstract: A metallic seal offers improved resistance to high temperature stress relaxation. In certain embodiments, two seal layers mechanically interfit. In one embodiment, the two layers each include a cut-out, and the cut-outs are stagger such that the cut-out of a first layer covers the cut-out of a second layer. In another embodiment, a metallic seal includes one layer comprised of a hardened metallic alloy.
