  • Patent number: 4972384
Abstract: A compressional-to-shear wave velocity ratio is measured in a subsurface sandstone formation. Ratios of compressional-to-shear wave velocity are determined over a plurality of shear wave travel times in water-bearing sandstone and shale. The subsurface sandstone formation is identified as being hydrocarbon-bearing when the measured compressional-to-shear wave velocity ratio in the subsurface formation is less than an identified minimum of the compressional-to-shear wave velocity ratios determined for water-bearing sandstone and shale.

  • Patent number: 4962490
Abstract: A deviated borehole penetrating a subsurface formation and intersected by a formation fracture is surveyed with a borehole televiewer acoustic logging system. Relative fracture dip angle and dip direction calculated from such survey with respect to the borehole axis is transformed into a true fracture dip angle and dip direction with respect to the vertical of the earth's coordinate system.

  • Patent number: 4861309
Abstract: A cylindrical toy having a first and second half each defining a semi-cylindrical body. Each of the halves has secured to its inner surface a plurality of substantially semi-circular flat plates which define a spiral passage when the halves are connected. The cylindrical halves have a bottom portion and the bottom portion of one half includes a bottom guide disk. The second half includes a reinforcing plate which is spaced from and disposed parallel to the bottom portion of the second half to form a space which receives the guide disk of the first half in order to accurately position the two halves with respect to each other prior to their being connected together.

  • Patent number: 4722713
Abstract: A baby's toy having a flexible arched support, fasteners at each end of the arched support for attaching it to a crib, things to arouse attention, and belt-like members for connecting the things to arouse attention to the arched support. The arched support has an elongated body element formed from a foamed plastic material which is flexible and substantially noncompressible under load. The elongated foamed plastic material is covered, preferably with cloth. In a preferred embodiment, the arched support has two generally elongated body elements made of the substantially noncompressible foamed plastic material.

  • Patent number: 4720283
Abstract: A toy comprising a hollow cylindricl body having top, bottom and side portions, a centrally disposed spiral passage, and at least one spherical element which can move along said passage as the toy is handled. The toy can be assembled from two semi-cylindrical halves and means are provided for easily aligning the halves prior to final assembly. The toy may be used in combination with rings, the first of which is adapted to receive the cylindrical toy and the second of which is adapted to receive the toy and the first ring.

  • Patent number: 4575828
Abstract: A borehole logging tool traverses a subsurface formation known to contain naturally occurring fractures. Acoustic wave energy through the naturally fractured formations is measured by a pair of spaced-apart receivers in the logging tool. The ratio of the tube wave amplitudes measured by the pair of receivers identifies total formation permeability. The differences in the tube wave travel times measured by the pair of receivers identifies matrix permeability. The difference between total formation permeability and matrix permeability is attributable to the naturally occurring fractures in the formation.

  • Patent number: 4249333
Abstract: An infant development toy comprising a plurality of rings of varying diameter connected to each other and to a central object by a flexible connecting means. Optionally, the connecting means may be extended outside the rings to form a primary handle, and a bell may be contained within the central object or the primary handle. The rings and central object are of a size, and are spaced along the connecting means in such a manner that, when the toy is held aloft by and suspended from the point of connection of the largest ring and the connecting means, the rings are concentric and surround the central object.
