    Abstract: A multi-element occlusion device (10, 20, 30, 40) provides an improvement over existing systems by increasing the occupation of a vascular lumen. The device (10, 20, 30) comprises an anchoring element (12, 22, 32), a lead element (14, 24, 34) and at least one fiber (16, 26, 36) attaching said elements. The elements and fibers produce a cumulative occlusive effect greater than the sum of the individual elements. When placed in the blood stream, the anchoring element (12, 22, 32) lodges against the vessel wall and the lead element (14, 24, 34) is carried to a position distal thereto. With the use of multi-element deployment, the device (10, 20, 30) decreases the risk of continued canalization and recanalization.

    Abstract: The present coaxial traction detachment system improves intravascular occlusion by providing a means for greater control in the placement of endovascular devices. The detachment apparatus (10) includes a guide wire (16) slidably disposed within a sheath (14). An endovascular device (18) is attached to the distal end of the guide wire (16). The sheath (14) is guided through a catheter (12) to a device detachment location. The device (18) is attached to the wire (16) either by a glue or solder or by mechanical means such as the intertwining of the device (18) to the guide wire (16). Following device placement and prior to detachment, the operator is able to observe the position and configuration of the device. If the position is unsatisfactory, he need only withdraw the sheath to remove the device. If placement is satisfactory, the system utilizes a coaxial detachment method such that the operator places traction on the guide wire and the device is pulled against the outer sheath, causing it to detach.

    Abstract: Slipper-boots made of synthetic polymeric foam sheeting material comprise an upwardly flared foot-receiving throat having an upper opening with a first perimetral length to provide excess material for stress distribution and a lower opening having a second, smaller perimetral length to grip the wearer's ankle. Gussetted bottom soles also may be provided for additional width. An apparatus and method for making such slipper-boots comprise means or steps for simultaneously forming the heel of a leading slipper and the toe of a following slipper across an intermittently moving folded band of material, whereby slipper size may be varied by altering the time of movement of the folded band of material between formations of the slipper-boot heels and toes. Material folding means are also disclosed.

    Abstract: Slippers of heat-sealable synthetic polymeric sheeting comprise a sole member and an upper member joined thereto by a heat-seal joint, the upper member having a progressively wider portion of said sheeting relative to the sole member, as measured across the slipper, whereby a permanent foot-receiving pocket is provided to facilitate donning the slipper without requiring the use of the hands. Method and apparatus for making such slippers comprise steps or means for joining separate bands of the material by heat-sealing the bands to each other on profiles corresponding to the sole and upper members, while simultaneously providing extra width in the upper member to create the foot receiving pocket.
