  • Patent number: 12379114
Abstract: A method for continuously removing a particular type of gas molecules (“gas molecules”) from a gas stream includes selecting a liquid having an affinity for the gas molecules to be removed, and providing the selected liquid to each of a first and second mat, each mat formed from a plurality of fibers having the ability to retain the selected liquid within longitudinally extending channels having longitudinally extending openings against moving into the space between the individual fibers, the mats in fluid communication therebetween with the selected liquid. The method includes directing the gas stream through a portion of the first mat into contact with the selected liquid along the longitudinally extending openings whereby the selected liquid absorbs the gas molecules, and directing a second gas through a portion of the second mat so that the gas molecules, absorbed by and disbursed throughout the selected liquid, are stripped and carried away.

  • Publication number: 20250109387
Abstract: In one aspect, the disclosure relates to engineered microvessels including a microchannel formed in a hydrogel material; and a medial layer including a plurality of mural cells such as, for example, smooth muscle cells and/or pericytes; wherein each one of the plurality of mural cells is in contact with a wall of the microchannel; and wherein the plurality of mural cells are helically aligned at an angle relative to a lengthwise axis of the microchannel. The microvessels have narrow diameters consistent with resistance microvessels such as small resistance arteries and arterioles and tunable stiffness resulting from degree of crosslinking within the hydrogel material. Also disclosed are methods of making the microvessels, microvessel networks including the microvessels, and engineered organs and tissues including the microvessels. Furthermore, disclosed is a method for inducing vasoconstriction and vasodilation in the microvessels, networks, and engineered organs and tissues.

  • Publication number: 20240398987
Abstract: Methods are provided for the ex vivo reprogramming of adult mammalian cells, wherein the genes used in reprogramming the adult cells are expressed with heterologous promoters that increase expression of associated genes while the cell is in a fetal or adult non-regenerative state, but down-regulated the expression of genes once cells reach a regenerative state and before the cells are reprogrammed to pluripotency. In addition, heterologous promoters uniquely expressing genes when cells are in an embryonic (pre-fetal state) are used to increase expression of toxic gene products in cancer cells.
