  • Patent number: 6719641
Abstract: An iron golf club head includes a heel portion, a toe portion, a sole portion, a top portion, a hosel portion, and a striking face having a front surface and a back surface. A peripheral mass is disposed on the back surface, which defines a first cavity. A cantilevered mass extends from the sole portion toward the top portion within the first cavity. The cantilevered mass includes a rear surface, which defines a second cavity in which a weight medallion is disposed. The weight medallion includes a high-density portion and a low-density portion, providing a customizable weighting device for controlling right or left shot tendencies from which golfers suffer. By positioning the high-density portion of the weighted medallion near the heel or toe, depending on the golfer's shot tendency, longer and straighter shots are achievable.

  • Patent number: 5377979
Abstract: A golf putter is provided with a head that rotates to slightly increase the loft of the face during impact and thereby lifts a golf ball from a low spot on the putting surface with reduced backspin and provides the golfer with greater control of the resulting putt. In addition, the tang of the neck received within a cavity within the head is surrounded by a resilient material that not only permits the loft-increasing rotational movement but also dampens vibration from the impact between the head and the golf ball and transmits a softer more desirable feel to the golfer's hands.

  • Patent number: 4693478
Abstract: There is disclosed a golf putter head which is longer (5.5 inches or greater), wider (at least 1.30 inch), and higher (at least 1.375 inch) than a conventional putter head so that the putter head is easier to align initially and provides greater distance and control during putting. The putter head includes a blade having a striking face, a blade sole, a heel end, a toe end, and a rear face. A flange extends integrally and rearwardly from the blade and has enlarged heel and toe sections and reduced-thickness center portion forming a cavity behind the putter blade. The center section of the flange is between 0.125 and 0.375 inch in thickness to provide reinforcement against vibration to the thin blade. As a result of the mass distribution of the blade and flange, the center of mass is positioned vertically to coincide with the center of a golf ball being stroked, and the putter has a rotational moment of inertia about a vertical axis through the center of mass of greater than 5000 gm/cm.sup.2.

  • Patent number: 4622836
Abstract: A golf club loft and lie calibration machine has a fixture with a cavity that exactly matches the back of the golf club head for clamping the golf club head. A pin with a tapered end is inserted into the bore of the golf club's hosel. The angular displacement of the pin is mechanically converted into two components of angular displacement which components are then converted to electrical signals. The electrical signals are processed to determine the deviations from the specified loft and lie angles. The deviation is used to activate hydraulic rams distributed around the fixture to bend the golf club head's hosel and bring the golf club back to specification.
