  • Patent number: 9381463
Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous process for removal of acid gas, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) from a fluid stream, such as natural gas comprising mainly hydrocarbons, by means of a absorbent medium in a rotating absorption zone. Subsequently, the acid gas is desorbed in a rotating desorption zone from the absorbent medium to allow the absorbent medium to be recirculated and the acid gas is removed for storage or drying and processing. This process can be carried out continuously, as the absorption medium is re-used.

  • Publication number: 20120174782
Abstract: A process for absorption and desorption of CO2 from an flue gas comprising feeding the flue gas into a mainly horizontal channel (20, 22, 249 where an absorption fluid is spray in to the channel in the flow direction of the flue gas and collected as CO2 rich absorption fluid at a lower part of the channel and transported into the centre of a rotating desorber wheel (30), where the CO2 is desorbed and the lean absorption fluid is returned to the channel is disclosed. This process can be utilized with absorption fluids with high concentration of conventional amine CO2 absorbents. Disclosed is also the use of an amine absorbent in a concentration of between 61 and 100% by weight for the absorption of CO2 from a gas stream, where the amine is an alkanol amine.

  • Publication number: 20120175241
Abstract: A system for desorption of CO2 from an absorption fluid includes a cylinder with an open inner core, a reboiler including a stripper unit arranged between the inner core and the circumference of the cylinder, where the reboiler including the stripper unit is rotatable arranged around an axis through the core, where the system further includes a condenser rotatable arranged in proximity of the cylinder and rotatable around the same axis, where all the parts of the system are symmetrically arranged around the rotational axis through the core, and where all the fluid paths through the rotational parts of the system are arranged to provide symmetry and weight balance when the system is operational. A method for desorbing CO2 is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20120174784
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for capturing C02 from a gas stream (10) by introducing droplets of an absorption liquid (15, 17, 40) into the gas stream mainly in the flow direction of the gas. According to the invention, CO2 is captured from the gas stream during a capture phase by means of the absorption liquid droplets, where the absorption liquid droplets are airborne during the capture phase, absorption liquid droplets are introduced into the gas stream with a velocity high enough to ensure internal circulation inside the absorption liquid droplets, and the absorption liquid droplets are introduced into the gas stream with a Sauter mean diameter in the range of 50 10E-6 m-500 10E-6·m. An apparatus suitable for conducting said method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6800115
Abstract: A device for treatment of a gas stream includes one or more entities (3) having functional elements (10, 20, 110, 200, 230, 310, 320, 330, 400) that are attached to, and able to rotate with, a hollow axle (4). The device also includes one or more pipes (5) mounted axially inside the hollow axle for transportation of necessary auxiliary fluids to effect the gas treatment.

  • Patent number: 6655150
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for removing and recovering CO2 from exhaust gas from a power and/or heat generating plant (a main power plant) by chemical absorption and desorption respectively, where the exhaust gas is fed to an absorber using a chemical absorbent where the CO2 is absorbed in said absorbent and a CO2-depleted exhaust gas stream is formed. The CO2 rich absorbent is further fed to a desorber where CO2 is removed from the absorbent, and the absorbent essentially free of CO2 is recirculated to the absorber and desorbed CO2 gas is discharged off. The exhaust gas is cooled and recompressed to an elevated pressure, in a compressor in a secondary power plant integrated with the main power plant, said absorber, and said desorber, before entering the absorber. The CO2-depleted exhaust gas emerging from the absorber is reheated and further expanded in an expander in said secondary power plant.

  • Publication number: 20030089232
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for treatment of an exhaust gas or a flue gas stream. The device comprises one or more entities (3) embracing frictional elements (10, 20, 110, 230, 310, 330, 400) attached to, and which are able to rotate with, a hollow axle (4) and one or more pipes (5) running axially inside the hollow axle for transporting of necessary auxiliary fluids to effect the gas treatment. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for treatment of an exhaust gas or a flue gas stream flowing through an exhaust gas duct or flue gas duct. The method comprises that the gas stream is conducted through one or more entities embracing functional elements attached to, and rotating with, a hollow, rotating axle and where necessary auxiliary fluids effecting the gas treatment enter and leave the functional element in each entity through pipes running axially inside the axle. The invention is particularly applicable for energy recovery and/or removal of CO2 from exhaust or flue gas.
