    Abstract: A protective film is formed on a magnetic head for recording and reading data in a magnetic recording medium. The method includes the steps of forming a corrosion-resistant film on an entire surface of the magnetic head, and forming a wear-resistant film on the corrosion-resistant film without exposing the corrosion-resistant film to atmosphere. The wear-resistant film has a wear resistance greater than that of the corrosion-resistant film.
