Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for switching computing devices between edge servers and peer groups. One example method includes receiving, at a client computing device and from a first computing device, media content. A request to initiate an assisted delivery service is sent from the client computing device to a second computing device. The assisted delivery service is initiated in response to the request. The assisted delivery service comprises identifying, at the second computing device, one or more peer computing devices receiving the media content. At the second computing device, instructions that enable the client computing device to discover at least one of the peer computing devices are generated. The instructions are sent from the second computing device to the client computing device. At the client computing device, a peer computing device is discovered. A request to receive a portion of the media content is sent from the client computing device to a discovered peer computing device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for responding to a sleep-state event. One example method includes receiving and generating, at a computing device, media content for output and receiving a sleep-state event. A type of the content being generated for output is identified and, based on the type of content, an action to perform in response to receiving the sleep-state event is identified. The action to perform is generated.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to dynamically generate metadata for a live media stream. The system determines that a first user on a social media network has started a live media stream. In response, the system identifies a topic of the live media stream based on a frame of the live media stream and identifies another person featured in the frame of the live media stream based on social connections of the first user in the social media network. The system then generates a title for the live media stream based on the identified topic and the identified person, and transmits a notification to a second user that the first user is streaming live, where the notification includes the generated title.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for populating content item metadata are described herein. The system receives a content item. The system then receives at the user device selections of identifier tags that are indicative of the source or context of the content item. The system updates at the server the content item along with the metadata and stores it for retrieval. In response to the user device receiving a second content item determined to be the same as the first content item, the system replaces the second content item with a link to the first content item. Once a user interaction with the link is detected, the system may follow the link to generate for display the content item.

Abstract: In systems and methods for enhancing group watch experiences, a first user's reaction is detected using multiple sensors, e.g., at least one camera and a microphone, and may be combined with context information to determine an action to perform at user equipment devices of other users participating in the group watch to convey the first user's reaction. Images from the at least one camera can be used to determine a portion of the screen to which the user's reaction is directed and/or another user to whom the reaction is directed. The reaction may be conveyed using one or more of an audio effect, a visual effect, haptic effect or text, e.g., to highlight the determined portion or user, display an icon and/or output an audio or video clip. A signal for providing haptic feedback may be transmitted to the user equipment device of the determined user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for generating meme content. A content item is tagged with one or more first tags based on metadata for the content item. The content item having the one or more first tags is received at user equipment. The content item is tagged with one or more second tags based on a user profile. A segment of the content item is identified based on the first and second tags. The identified segment is stored for use in generating meme content.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for providing context to users who access video conferences late. This may be accomplished by a system receiving an audio segment of a video conference and generating a subtitle corresponding to the audio segment. The system may determine a summary relating to the audio segment and then display the subtitle, summary, and video conference on a device. The system allows a user, who accesses a video conference late, to quickly and accurately understand the current video conference discussion, improving the user's experience and increasing the productivity of the video conference.

Abstract: Systems and methods for summarizing captions, configuring playback speed, and rewriting the caption file for a media asset are disclosed. The system determines whether to display the original captions or a summarized version of the captions, which are based on user's language proficiency level, reading pace, and historical data, and can be generated either on-demand or automatically when rewinds and pauses are detected. The caption file which includes the original captions can be rewritten. The system determines whether to stream a caption or a rewritten file to a media device based on user or system selections. In the absence of a caption file, or when the caption file cannot be summarized, the playback speed of the media asset is slowed down to provide additional reading time to the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for providing dynamic in-vehicle content. A path of a vehicle is predicted, and an intersection is identified along the predicted path. Based on vehicle status data, a determination is made as to whether the vehicle is decelerating along the predicted path within a threshold distance of the intersection. In response to determining that the vehicle is decelerating along the predicted path within the threshold distance of the intersection, a further determination is made as to whether a geographical location of the intersection is associated with a content item. In response to determining that the geographical location of the intersection is associated with the content item, the content item is presented via an entertainment device of the vehicle.

Abstract: Systems and methods are presented for populating content item metadata are described herein. The system receives a content item. An option to modify whether or not the content provider should be granted access to the respective database record is provided for each database record of the database records, and each database record that is associated with an indication that the content provider should be granted access is transmitted to the content provider, to enable the content provider to generate and transmit a content recommendation based on at least one of the database records transmitted to the content provider.

Abstract: Systems and methods for mapping keys on a remote control device to digital content items are disclosed. An algorithm is trained, based on user's consumption pattern, to determine whether a digital content item would be relevant to the user. If the digital content item matches the consumption pattern, then a key is automatically mapped, and if it does not, then a notification that includes a mapping suggestion is generated and mapped upon approval. A mapping table is updated to store only valid mappings. An input of a key results in quick display of the mapped digital content item from where it was previously exited. A key can be mapped to a single or multiple digital content items. If similarities are detected between multiple digital content items, then they may both be mapped to the same key.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for caching content items. At least first and second content items are stored in a cache. A determination is made as to whether there is common content between the first content item and the second content item. In response to determining that there is common content between the first content item and the second content item, at least a portion of one of the first content item and the second content item is deleted. A request for the common content is received. In response to receiving the request for the common content, the common content is retrieved from the other of the first content item and the second content item.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for presenting a focused display of content. A content item is generated for display and an index map is received for the content item. The index map correlates the content item, for example, a region of the content item, to the focused content. A focus indicator can be simultaneously displayed with the content item to inform a viewer of the availability of the focused content. A selection to present the focused content is received and in response, and based on the index map, the focused content is generated for display, thereby enabling a viewer to have a personalized viewing experience.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a gear-based user interface for display are disclosed. A user equipment device may generate for display a first gear shape, a second gear shape, and a third gear shape. The first gear shape comprises a first plurality of media identifiers, where a first media identifier of the first plurality is selected. The second gear shape comprises a second plurality of media identifiers that are representative of a group indicated by the selected first media identifier, where a second media identifier is selected. The third gear shape comprises a third plurality of options for a media asset indicated by the selected second media identifier. Upon input indicating that the first gear shape is to be rotated, the second gear shape is rotated with the first gear shape based on the rotation of the first gear shape.

Abstract: Systems and methods for inserting auxiliary content slots within portions of media assets determined to be of interest to users. Segments of a media asset being viewed by a user are identified as being of particular interest to the user, with reference to a stored set of user preferences. User preferences may be consulted to determine which of these segments may be of likely interest to the viewer. Slots for auxiliary content, such as an advertisement, are then added to those segments deemed to be of likely interest. Auxiliary content such as ads may accordingly be displayed to a user at points within media assets at which the user is more likely to be paying attention, increasing the likelihood that auxiliary content will be viewed and perhaps interacted with by the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for generating meme content. A content item is tagged with one or more first tags based on metadata for the content item. The content item having the one or more first tags is received at user equipment. The content item is tagged with one or more second tags based on a user profile. Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for highlighting objects with a primary content that are likely to be of interest to a user viewing the primary content. More particularly, when the system receives a segment of primary content to be displayed on a user equipment device for consumption, the system analyzes the received segment to identify an object within the received segment. The system then checks a database storing supplemental content to determine whether supplemental content associated with the identified object is available. When supplemental content associated with the identified object is available within the database, the system modifies the received segment of the primary content to highlight the identified object and displays the modified segment of the primary content on the user equipment device for consumption.
