  • Patent number: 5404572
Abstract: A radio communication apparatus (21) is tested by not only a radio test signal but also an optical test signal. Each test signal carries a test digital data signal. The apparatus has a radio processing section (24, 25) for processing the radio test signal into the test digital data signal. A data processing section (28, 29) processes an input data signal into a processed data signal. Responsive to the processed data signal, an announcing section (30, 31) announces generation of the processed data signal. An optical processing section (32, 27) processes the optical test signal into the digital data signal. Connected to the radio and the optical processing sections and to the data processing section, a selector (26) selects, as the input data signal, one of the test digital data signals produced by the radio and the optical processing sections.

  • Patent number: 5309477
Abstract: A radio communication apparatus (21) is tested by radio and optical test signals (RTS and OTS) simultaneously transmitted by a test transmitter (22). Each test signal carries a test digital data signal. The apparatus has a radio digital data recovering section (23-25) for recovering the test digital data signal as a first digital data signal from the radio test signal. An optical digital data recovering section (39-42, 44-46) recovers the test digital data signal as a second digital data signal from the optical test signal. A comparing section (48-52) produces a bit coincidence signal whenever corresponding bits between the first and the second digital data signals coincides with each other. A counter (54) counts up a count to an increased count in response to the bit coincidence signal during a predetermined time interval. An indicator (30-32) indicates the increased count as sensitivity of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4644350
Abstract: A pager comprising a light sensor which is responsive to light externally illuminating the pager to generate a first signal when the sensed light is below a predetermined luminance value. The first signal is supplied to a coincidence gate which provides a coincidence output when it detects the coincidence of the first signal with a second signal that is generated when there is a message on a display. The coincidence output feeds a light source to illuminate the display to make it visible under poor lighting conditions.

  • Patent number: 4639726
Abstract: In a radio communication apparatus comprising a P-ROM (32), a loudspeaker (34), and/or a display unit (36) and carrying out a receiving operation of selectively receiving a call signal specific to the apparatus by the use of an identification number read out of the P-ROM, a predetermined signal to be produced after the call signal is defined to inhibit or disable the receiving operation carried out after reception of the predetermined signal. The loudspeaker may be driven under control of a reception controller (31) to continuously produce an audible signal when the predetermined signal is received. The display unit may also be driven to provide visual displays representative of particular messages conveyed by the predetermined signal. The particular messages may be "lost" and "theft" codes and a telephone number.

  • Patent number: 4491978
Abstract: In a portable radio receiver of the type wherein a metal member forming a loop antenna surrounds the circuit components making up the receiver circuitry, the receiver is provided with high impedance elements in series with at least the power supply and grounding lines at some point between the power supply and the RF-IF converter. The antenna circuitry may also include a high impedance element in series with the signal path at some point downstream of the RF-IF converter.

  • Patent number: 4462030
Abstract: A portable electronic apparatus has an oscillator for generating a signal. An audible annunciator has an inductance element for generating an audible annunciating signal in response to a first actuation signal of a first frequency. A light emitting means is turned on and off by counter-electromotive forces developed in the inductance element in response to one of the first actuation signal and a second actuation signal of a second frequency. A frequency divider is coupled to the audible annunciator and to the light emitting means for frequency-dividing the oscillation signal to provide the first and second actuation signals and for selectively generating one of these actuation signals in response to a control signal.

  • Patent number: 4408099
Abstract: A radio paging system calls a paged receiver from a first telephone, with signals sent by way of a paging terminal. Paging is carried out by the steps of (a) sending a paging signal assigned to the paging receiver and a message from the first telephone set to the paging terminal; (b) transmitting the paging signal from the paging terminal to the paging receiver via a radio frequency; (c) storing the message at the paging terminal; (d) at the paging receiver, receiving the paging signal transmitted by the step (b); (e) storing in advance the paging number for the paging receiver at the paging receiver; (f) sending tones from the paging receiver corresponding to the paging number stored by the step (e), the tones being sent to the paging terminal by way of a second telephone; and (g) sending the message stored by the step (c) to the second telephone, in response to the tones.
