    Abstract: A communication terminal is connected to a server and transmits a route search request for a destination to the server and obtains a route searched for from the server according to the request. When setting a destination or transmitting the route search request to the server, the terminal requests the server for guidance information targeted for at least an update target area around a current location among update target areas. The guidance information is for providing movement guidance for a mobile unit, and the update target areas are areas whose terminal-side map information included in the terminal is an older version of map information relative to the server's device-side map information. The terminal receives the guidance information transmitted from the server according to the request for the guidance information, and provides the movement guidance for the mobile unit using a route set on the terminal and the received guidance information.

When the route retrieval request is acquired from the terminal, the server acquires route information related to a target route that is a route corresponding to a predetermined distance from the departure point in a terminal-recommended route that is a route from the departure point to the destination and is retrieved by using terminal-side map information provided in the terminal. The server retrieves a route to the destination that includes at least a part of the target route by using device-side map information provided in the server and the route information, and delivers the retrieved route to the terminal.
