    Abstract: An airbag includes a seam, which divides the airbag into an upper chamber and a lower chamber. An inner tube is provided inside the airbag such that openings are each located in one of the chambers. An inflator is inserted in the inner tube such that gas blown out from a gas port is oriented toward the lower chamber. A gap formed between an outer circumferential surface of the inflator and an inner circumferential surface of the inner tube during inflation and deployment of the airbag connects the upper chamber to the lower chamber.

    Abstract: An occupant protection apparatus includes a cover sheet adapted to be fed out from a peripheral edge of a window of a vehicle, when a pulling unit is activated, so as to cover the window. The pulling unit includes a pulling string having flexibility and a pulling device to which the pulling string is connected so as to be pulled thereby and which is disposed below the window. When the pulling device is activated, the pulling string is pulled such that a portion thereof which extends from a fixed end to where it is supported by a support member becomes a straight line while a portion thereof which is disposed along a lower edge portion of the peripheral edge of the window is caused to rise.

A toe board is connected to the front end of a floor panel in a manner being raised upward. A cross member is fixed to the rear part of the floor panel. A carpet pad is extended rearward on the floor panel from a position in the vicinity of the toe board, and has a rear end thereof abutted on the cross member to restrict rearward movement of the carpet pad. The carpet pad is provided with a fragile part which is located in front of the cross member and is buckled by impact load is provided in the vicinity of a seat.

The bracket has aholding part that holds an airbag on a pillar panel and a mounting part that is mounted on the pillar panel. With this arrangement, it is possible to inflate the airbag in a reliable manner while preventing the pillar trim and the airbag from interfering with each other.

The strap holding member holds the strap releasably in a predetermined direction. The strap holding member is disposed to direct in the predetermined direction towards the gap.
