Abstract: A method and device for improved audio intelligibility in a converged land mobile radio (LMR)/broadband (BB) communications system is provided. A converged portable radio operating as part of a talkgroup in the LMR/BB system checks for predetermined triggers during standby that could cause receive radios of the talkgroup to receive degraded audio. If such a trigger is detected then the converged portable radio switches from the LMR system to the BB system and transmits a notification including a change system message to the other converged portable radios of the talkgroup. The notification is transmitted prior to any push-to-talk audio being transmitted from the originating radio. The converged portable radio can transmit, via a push-to-talk switch, narrowband (NB) audio and wideband (WB) audio in parallel over the BB system to the talkgroup subsequent to the detection of triggers and the sending of the notification.

Abstract: Systems and methods for broadband failover in land mobile radio networks. One method includes operating a first communication interface of a converged communication device to execute a first communication between the device and a first network using an LMR modality. The method includes determining a plurality of radio communication characteristic values for each of a plurality of sites of the first network and generating a fallback threshold for a home site of the device based on the plurality of radio communications characteristics. The method includes determining whether a current radio communication characteristic value associated with a home site of the device exceeds the fallback threshold, and, when the current radio communication characteristic value does not exceed the fallback threshold, operating a second communication interface of the converged communication device to execute a second communication between the device and a second network using a non-LMR modality.

When a difference between the first angle and the second angle is below a threshold, a first modified image stream is generated by highlighting the object in the first image stream. When the difference between the first angle and the second angle is above the threshold, a second modified image stream is generated by highlighting the object and indicating a relative direction to the object from the second device.

The method includes receiving a first image stream including the object from a first portable communication device associated with the talkgroup. The method includes detecting the object in the first image stream, determining a first view angle associated with the object's position in relation to the first device, and determining a second view angle associated with the object's position in relation to a second portable communication device. When a difference between the first angle and the second angle is below a threshold, a first modified image stream is generated by highlighting the object in the first image stream. The backlog item includes a subset of data blocks of the plurality of data blocks. The subset of data blocks were broadcasted on the broadcast data channel after the voice call start event and prior to the voice call end event. The method further includes broadcasting the subset of data blocks on the broadcast data channel upon detection of the voice call end event.
