  • Patent number: 5918276
Abstract: A system for monitoring the wind speed experienced at a particular residential location includes a roof housing with a cup-type anemometer having three or four concave cups attached to a rotatable vertical shaft. The cups resist the wind, causing the cups and shaft to rotate at a rate proportional to the wind speed. Shaft is rotatably joined to a dynamo which converts the mechanical energy derived from rotation of the shaft into electricity. Voltage from the dynamo is then transferred to rechargeable batteries which power the system. An array of solar panels is also utilized to recharge the batteries. The shaft includes a mark detectable by a photomicrosensor through which the shaft extends, allowing the photomicrosensor to count the number of shaft revolutions. This data is sent at fixed time intervals to a logic circuit housed within a display unit. The logic circuit calculates wind speed according to the number of shaft revolutions detected within a fixed time interval.

  • Patent number: 5710691
Abstract: A programmable control unit for protecting an appliance connected to a household power source comprises a modular unit plugged into a household power socket. The modular unit presents a socket for plugging a household appliance therein. An internal microprocessor has program logic for analyzing the period of current flow to the household appliance and/or the power consumed thereby. Once the time period of operation and/or rate of energy consumption exceeds preselected values, the program logic of the microprocessor opens a relay so as to cease current flow to the appliance. The maximum threshold values of time and/or energy can be varied by the user according to the utilized appliance. The use of the intermediate unit enables a plurality of appliances to be safely coupled to the household power.

  • Patent number: 5596312
Abstract: An alarm for engaging the tongue plate and buckle of a seat belt system. The alarm presents a housing having a latch for releasable engagement with the tongue plate as well as a tongue plate for engagement with the buckle of the seat belt system. An alarm circuit is activated by a dial which must be rotated and then depressed to release the tongue plate from the alarm. If the actions of dial rotation and depression are not accomplished within the time delay of the alarm circuit, the alarm will sound indicative of an attempted disengagement of the seat belt system.
