Patent number: 9171267Abstract: The present disclosure provides for categorization of lists of words. The method comprises querying DBpedia to find the resources related to the given list of words. Once the resources are found, the corresponding media Wikipedia categories can be retrieved, as well as their ancestors, generating a graph of categories. A number of graph analysis algorithms can then be applied to the graph, each returning a selected category. For each algorithm a classifier is trained to decide whether the output of the algorithm is indeed the “best” category. An ensemble weighted majority voting can then be used to select the best category based on votes cast by each classifier. The disclosure demonstrates a more accurate selection of the best category and can include an ensemble majority rated voting algorithm comprising all voting members initially casting one vote; i.e., highest frequency, most frequently occurring word, least common ancestor and centrality measures.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: October 27, 2015Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Kirk J. Ocke, Dale E. Gaucas, Michael D. Shepherd

Patent number: 8307338Abstract: A method and system provides one or more product type descriptions, and constructs a map between the sub-conditions of the product type descriptions and constructs in a Web Ontological Language (OWL). The method converts the product type description rules into new OWL classes by creating a new OWL class for each corresponding rule; adding the new OWL class to the OWL ontology; for each condition of the corresponding rule, extracting sub-conditions; for each the sub-condition extracted; creating new constructs for the new OWL class using the map; and adding new class restrictions to the new OWL class, wherein each of the new class restrictions relates to a corresponding condition of the corresponding rule.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2008Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Kirk J. Ocke, Dale E. Gaucas, Michael D. Shepherd

Patent number: 8290999Abstract: Systems and methods maintain at least one point of interest data file within a computer-readable storage medium and automatically identify a current user location of a user based on a geographic positioning feature of a portable electronic device that is maintained within a first predetermined distance from the user. The systems and methods automatically compare the current user location with the point of interest data file to identify whether the user is located within a second predetermined distance of a point of interest maintained within the point of interest data file. If the user is within the second predetermined distance of a point of interest, the systems and methods automatically create a user status data file. The user status data comprises data identifying that the user is currently at the point of interest.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2009Date of Patent: October 16, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Michael D. Shepherd, Dale E. Gaucas

Patent number: 8149442Abstract: A method receives a variable information print job and determines if any of the personalized content exceeds the size of a corresponding content area of the template. If the personalized content exceeds the size of a corresponding content area of the template, the method resolves such size inconsistencies (between the personalized content and the content area) by selectively removing and/or filtering portions of the personalized content according to the knowledge-based rules.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2008Date of Patent: April 3, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Dale E. Gaucas

Patent number: 8131734Abstract: Methods and systems enhance a user's experience when working with documents and images. Such methods and systems, provide pictures, graphics, images, etc. related to words, phrases, sentences, etc. when a pointing device is hovered over the word or phrase to help the user to understand and remember the words, phrases, sentences, etc. being read, and/or increase the enjoyment of the user.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2008Date of Patent: March 6, 2012Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Paul R. Austin, Dale E. Gaucas, Robert R. Buckley

Patent number: 8051029Abstract: A method provides a knowledgebase having a set of existing print product classes into which print product descriptions are classified. The method receives the new print product class from a user and maps the representation of new print product class conditions to be semantically consistent with the representation of existing class conditions. The method evaluates the new print product class to produce user feedback. The user feedback is output to the user. The new print product class is added to the knowledgebase only if the new print product class is valid and free of errors and semantically consistent with the definitions of already existing print product classes.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2008Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Michael D. Shepherd, Kirk J. Ocke, Dale E. Gaucas

Patent number: 7958562Abstract: In accordance with one embodiment, apparatus are provided including a document access arbiter, a guest access control mechanism, and a guest setup interface. The document access arbiter securely controls user access to a secured document repository. The guest access control mechanism provides, to guest users, selective access to respective select set of documents in the secure document repository. The guest users include users that do not have account holder access to the document repository. The guest setup interface presents, via a computer screen, guest parameter graphical tools to account holder users having account holder access to the repository.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2006Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Dale E. Publication number: 20100017383Abstract: A method receives user restrictions and establishes a list of recognized publication websites. The publication websites comprise websites that provide, for example, research papers and research articles. The method periodically scans Internet browser history files located on different user's computers (as limited by the user restrictions) to identify publication websites within the Internet browser history files. The method analyzes the website addresses and metadata associated with the publication websites to identify the publication service providers utilized, and to identify the journals, titles, authors, keywords, and abstracts of research papers and research articles accessed. Then, the methods herein can generate statistics regarding the publication service providers, and statistics regarding research topics based on the journals, titles, authors, keywords, and abstracts.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2008Publication date: January 21, 2010Applicant: XEROX CORPORATIONInventor: Dale E.
