Patent number: 7195526Abstract: A trolling motor for use with a watercraft is disclosed. The trolling motor comprises a head portion, a propulsion unit, a shaft coupling the propulsion unit to the head portion, and a mounting system configured to secure the trolling motor to the watercraft and to pivot the trolling motor between a deployed position and a stowed position. The mount system comprises a base having a first portion adapted to be mounted to the watercraft and a second portion adapted to receive the trolling motor, a pivot member coupled to the base and configured to pivot between the deployed position and the stowed position, and a damper mechanism coupled to the pivot member and configured to impede the movement of the member as the pivot member is being moved between the deployed position and the stowed position.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2006Date of Patent: March 27, 2007Assignee: Johnson Outdoors, Inc.Inventors: Darrel A. Bernloehr, Dale E. Simonson

Patent number: 6431923Abstract: A bow mount for a trolling motor and a method for releasably mounting a trolling motor to a bow of a boat are disclosed. The bow mount includes a base, a chassis, an actuation mechanism between the chassis and the base and a retaining mechanism. The base is adapted to be mounted to a bow of a boat and includes a pair of longitudinally extending spaced side channels. The chassis is adapted to be coupled to the trolling motor and includes a pair of spaced longitudinally extending side projections. The actuation mechanism is positioned between the chassis and the base and is configured to move at least one of the side projections and the side channels in a transverse direction relative to one another such that the projections extend into the channels. The retaining mechanism is configured to removably retain the projections in the channels.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 2000Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Johnson Outdoors Inc.Inventors: Steven J. Knight, Dale E. Simonson

Patent number: 6213821Abstract: A trolling motor assembly includes a trolling motor, a motor tube coupled to the trolling motor, an elongate tubular housing telescopically receiving the motor tube, a linear actuator for vertically raising and lowering the motor tube along its axis, a steering arm, and a coupling mechanism between the motor tube and the arm. The coupling mechanism is movable between a first position and a second position while remaining connected to the motor assembly. The coupling mechanism connects the steering arm to the motor tube in the first position, whereby the tube and the motor may be rotated by the arm. The coupling mechanism disconnects the arm from the motor tube in the second position, whereby the tube and the motor may be rotated independent of the arm.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1998Date of Patent: April 10, 2001Inventors: Darrel A. Bernloehr, Dale E. Simonson

Patent number: 5316238Abstract: A closed face fishing reel comprises a body and a housing detachably secured to the body. The housing includes an aperture for permitting fishing line to pass through. The shape of the aperture is selectively alterable from a configuration which imparts a jerking motion to the line as it is wound into the reel to a configuration which imparts little or no jerking motion to the line as it is wound into the reel. In accordance with the preferred embodiment, the reel includes a body, a housing segment attached to the body, a cover attached to the housing segment and a rotatable member position between the housing segment and cover. The cover and member each include apertures which cooperate one with the other to define a line passageway of variable shape.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1991Date of Patent: May 31, 1994Assignee: Johnson Fishing, Inc.Inventor: Dale E. Simonson

Patent number: 4951182Abstract: A modular marina power pedestal and light pedestal enclosure is fabricated from a pair of opposing flanged plastic sidepieces that are sized to accept both lamp enclosures as well as electrical power centers. A wide variety of customer options that include power receptacles, telephone connectors, metering facilities and water hook-up are available with slight modification. Existing lamp enclosures and power centers are received within the enclosure without modification.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1989Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Dale E. Simonson, Ronald J. Orchard, Donald H. Stoll

Patent number: 4712157Abstract: A molded plastic load center enclosure allows the circuit breakers contained therein to be compactly aligned on one side of the enclosure. Depressions formed within the bottom of the interior surface of the enclosure produce bosses extending from the exterior surface thereof, which provide a cooling air circulatory space between the enclosure and a support wall. Metal disks inserted within the depressions provide increased thermal capacity to the enclosure interior while allowing the use of explosive charge-driven nails to attach the enclosure to the support wall without damaging the plastic material.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1987Date of Patent: December 8, 1987Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Dale E.
