  • Publication number: 20150158003
Abstract: Microcapsules are described that include a hydrophobic core material within an acrylic polymeric shell that was polymerized from a monomeric blend that includes a mono-functional acrylic monomer as less than 25% by weight of the monomeric blend and a hyperbranched polyester acrylic oligomer as the balance of the monomeric blend, and methods of making the same. The methods include a two-stage polymerization process where the monomeric blend is polymerized with an azo-initiator in a first stage polymerization reaction and is subsequently further polymerized with a water soluble initiator in a second stage polymerization reaction.

  • Patent number: 5998939
Abstract: A high pressure gas discharge lamp system includes a high pressure discharge lamp selected to have a lowest lamp resonant frequency above the audible, on a current basis above about 19 kHz and on a power basis of above about 38 kHz. The ballast circuit energizes the discharge device so as to have a fundamental frequency below the lowest lamp resonant frequency and above the audible, while keeping the magnitude of any harmonics above the lowest lamp resonant frequency sufficiently small so as to avoid acoustic resonance. By operating below the lowest lamp resonant frequency, greatly simplifying ballast construction and cost. According to one embodiment, the discharge vessel encloses a discharge space which is circular cylindrical and having a L:ID ratio of about 1:1 to maximize the lowest lamp resonant frequency.

  • Patent number: 5435376
Abstract: A microencapsulated phase change material comprising a microcapsule wall former encapsulating a phase change material as an internal phase, said phase change material being inherently resistant or a flame retardant being admixed with said phase change material.

  • Patent number: 5272407
Abstract: A single-ended electric lamp having an alkali-halide containing light source which produces ultraviolet radiation and is supported within an outer envelope by metallic support structure having an elongate support rod extending past the arc tube. A tubular cover extends over a length L1 of the support rod and the remainder of the support structure remains uncovered. A screen is interposed between the light source and an uncovered portion of the metal support structure to prevent ultra-violet radiation emitted from said light source from directly impinging on said uncovered portion. Preferably, a plurality of screens are arranged within the outer envelope to block the line of sight from the light source to any uncovered portion of the metal support structure and to reduce the quantity of reflected ultraviolet radiation reflected off the inner surface of the arc tube which impinges on uncovered portions of the metal support structure.

  • Patent number: 5008133
Abstract: A method of forming a coating on a web. A coating mixture includes a continuous phase of a first material and a second material contained in microcapsules. The first material and the second material interact to form the coating. The coating mixture is applied to a face of the web. The web is passed between a back-up member and a doctor blade so that the doctor blade levels the coating mixture on the web and crushes the microcapsules to cause mixing of the materials on the web to form the coating on the web.

  • Patent number: 4536524
Abstract: A microencapsulated epoxy adhesive system is disclosed comprising in admixture epoxy resin capsules and encapsulated Ancamine TL (Pacific Anchor Chemical Co.) as the curing agent. When applied, for example to a zinc plated bolt and the bolt is tightened, the capsules break and the resin cures and provides good breakaway torques.
