The difference block is coded using intraframe coding, to form a coded difference block. The coded difference block is transmitted to a display; processing hardware in the display reconstructs the sequence of frames.

However, when a message is to be client-aborted, the FCS is generated by a second method which requires modifying the good FCS value to create a ‘bad’ FCS, preferably using a mathematical means that preserves the uniqueness of the bad FCS to a high degree.

    Abstract: A single wire bus communication system comprises a bus wire, a host device, and at least one client device, with each host and client device having pull-up and pull-down transistors to pull the bus wire “high” or “low”, respectively. The system is arranged such that, in response to a “trigger event” that requires responses from multiple client devices simultaneously, the host device enables its pull-down transistor, and each client device disables its pull-down transistor when conveying a “low” logic level onto the bus. To avoid bus contention, each client's pull-up transistor is arranged to conduct more current when enabled than the host's pull-down transistor. Then, one or more of the client devices' strong pull-ups will overcome the single weak pull-down on the bus, thereby enabling numerous client devices to respond to a command that requires a response from multiple clients.

The portable computer includes a circuit which senses current provided to or drawn from the battery. A system host controls the measurement and calibration of the battery system; the host requests current measurements under both zero-current and non-zero calibration current conditions, with the resulting calibration values enabling linearity errors that might otherwise be present in the current measurements to be totally and easily identified and accounted for in a fuel gauge measurement. The present system complies with the SBS-IF specification for Smart Battery systems.
