  • Patent number: 5293834
Abstract: A hog farrowing crate and pen has side finger bars which are adjustable to vary the farrowing area. Adjustability is achieved by pivoting each of the side finger bars at one end of the crate with the opposite ends secured in a selected fixed position at the opposite end of the crate. Preferably, at least one of the side finger bars is straight while the other bar has a long straight portion and a shorter straight portion at an angle to the long portion. The swingable adjustment of the side finger bars provides for varying the size of the farrowing, pre-stall and creep areas during the stages of farrowing, post-farrowing and weaning.

  • Patent number: 4796563
Abstract: The main or warp wires in the mesh flooring are shaped with a flat surface on top and have a cross-sectional shape so that the widest portion of each warp wire is at or near the top flat surface. The warp wires also have high and low surfaces with the high and low surfaces of adjacent wires alternated in accordance with a predetermined pattern to improve both comfort and resistance to slipping. This construction also permits the use of straight cross wires so that the wire mesh floor will rest firmly on flat surfaces and support systems in existing installations.

  • Patent number: 4694780
Abstract: An animal-actuated feeding apparatus of the type that includes a feeding trough located beneath the discharge opening of a hopper containing the feed. The feed flows by gravity from the hopper through the discharge opening into the trough, but the feed flow is controlled by an animal-actuated dispensing mechanism. This mechanism includes a cradle-wiper assembly in which the cradle is rocked by the animal moving a paddle that extends into the trough area. Rocking of the cradle also agitates the feed stored in the hopper to prevent bridging across the hopper discharge opening. Manually adjustable means is also provided to control feed flow rate.
