  • Patent number: 10081743
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an adhesive composition for use in the production of paperboard is provided. An amount of water contained within a source container is provided. The water is heated to a first temperature. A rheology modifier is added to the heated water to create a heated solution. A starch is added to the heated solution. The heated solution is mixed for a first period of time to create a heated mixture. Additionally, there may be more independent time segments determining an amount of time which the components of the heated solution are mixed or blended together. Additional elements of the adhesive composition are added to the heated mixture between each mixing time segment.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20150306836
Abstract: A system and method for producing a more desirable sheet of cardboard is provided. The system includes a corrugating device, a pressure exerting device, and a double backing device. The double backing device includes a set of hot plates operatively connected to a temperature control system to independently control the temperature of each hot plate within the set. By varying the temperature of each plate, the system can produce a sheet of paperboard with evenly cured adhesive lines to reduce warping and reduce delamination. The method of the present invention includes the steps of feeding a sheet of paperboard over the set of hot plates to evenly cure the adhesive with varying plate temperatures.

  • Publication number: 20150306837
Abstract: A liquid metering system in the manufacture of paperboard includes a moisture applicator roll. The moisture applicator roll is configured to rotate about its axis generally perpendicular to a paperboard material flow stream. As the moisture applicator roll rotates, it has a tangential velocity. The tangential velocity is a percentage of the linear velocity of the paperboard material moving down the flow stream. The moisture applicator roll contacts the material at a contact location. At the contact location, the direction of the tangential velocity of the applicator roll opposes the direction of flow of the material. The percentage of the tangential velocity of the applicator roll relative to the linear velocity of the material is generally in a range from about 2% to about 160%.
