  • Patent number: 5537304
Abstract: A flush mounted ceiling fixture canopy molded of a polycarbonate (or other suitable) resin attachable to a conventional electric connection box in the ceiling. The canopy has a peripheral frame and a canopy body positioned centrally in the frame. The canopy body has a depending wall defining an insulating air space. There is an insulative layer below the canopy. Light bulbs are positioned below the insulative layer and, in part, below the air space to insulate the connection box from heat transfer from the bulbs. The canopy is structured so as to minimize the transfer of heat from the bulbs to the canopy structure.

  • Patent number: 4754383
Abstract: The present invention provides a ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted light fixture, an enclosure which is releasably securable to that fixture, interacting supporting surfaces on that enclosure and on that fixture which permit rotation of that enclosure relative to that fixture to secure that enclosure to that fixture or to release that enclosure from that fixture, a mold-smooth fixture-receiving surface on that enclosure, and a die-cut enclosure-engaging surface on that fixture which will always provide a smooth engagement between itself and the mold-smooth fixture-receiving surface on that enclosure.

  • Patent number: 4729073
Abstract: The present invention provides a plastic support, for an electric lamp and for the enclosure for that lamp, which is resistant to flame, heat, cold, water, ice, sunshine and other natural environmental conditions; and that support makes it possible to eliminate the traditional metal mounting pan, length of metal pipe, and securing fittings. As a result, the support of the present invention can directly engage a wall rather than engage a metal mounting pan which must engage that wall, and the flexible conductors from the socket can be given a random orientation from that socket to the power-supplying conductors in the wall instead of having to assume the fixed orientation imposed by the use of a length of metal pipe. This means that the conductors can be shorter than normal; because of the elimination of the depth of the metal mounting pan, and also because the wires assume orientations comparable to hypotenuses rather than orientations resembling the altitudes and bases of triangles.

  • Patent number: 4514792
Abstract: A lighting fixture adapted to be mounted on a ceiling by attachment to an outlet box in the ceiling. The fixture comprises a crossbar attached to the bottom of the outlet box in a position extending horizontally across the bottom of the box and of such length as to extend at both ends beyond the box. The crossbar has downwardly extending legs and generally horizontally extending feet at the lower ends of the legs. The fixture further has a plate below the crossbar with thermally insulated spacer means between the plate and the crossbar. Screws secure the plate to the crossbar with the spacer means between the plate and the crossbar. The screws extend up through holes in the plate and are threaded into holes in the feet. A light source and diffuser for the light source are secured on the bottom of the plate and to the rim of the plate, respectively.
