  • Patent number: 7410440
Abstract: A method for converting a non-driven tag axle system to a driven axle system is disclosed where a forward driven axle system is converted to drive an interaxle drive shaft. The interaxle drive shaft is connected to a drive axle head mounted within the tag axle housing. Drive axles are connected to drive axle head. In another embodiment, a forward driven axle system is removed from a first position on the vehicle frame and the tag axle is removed from a second position on the vehicle frame. A differential is installed in the tag axle and it is located in the first position. The forward driven axle system is located in the second position and connected to the differential in the first position.

  • Patent number: 6702703
Abstract: An inter-axle differential assembly having a lubrication pump is provided. The pump is disposed between the input and output shafts of the differential within a bore defined by a side gear coupled to or integral with the output shaft. The pump includes a housing that defines first and second ports and includes an arcuate groove in a radially outer surface. A pin extends radially inwardly from the side gear and is received within the groove. The groove and pin cooperate to enable rotation of the entire pump relative to the side gear and to thereby exchange the positions of the two ports. In this manner, the assembly provides a reversible pump that provides lubricant only during relative rotation between the input and output shafts of the differential.

  • Patent number: 6311985
Abstract: An integral yoke/slinger assembly replaces a conventional two-piece design. The integral yoke/slinger arrangement provides a new and improved shaft seal particularly adapted for use in yoke and flange arrangement exposed to a heavy concentration of air entrained foreign material, whereby a more efficient and economical method for manufacturing and assembling a yoke, slinger and seal arrangement for a drive axle system is provided.
