    Abstract: A piezoelectric sensor assembly is for an electrical system. The electrical system includes a sensor attachment assembly and a number of electrical conductors. The sensor attachment assembly includes a sensor housing and a fastening member for fastening the sensor housing to a corresponding one of the electrical conductors. The piezoelectric sensor assembly includes a processor enclosed by the sensor housing, a piezoelectric sensor element, a wiring assembly electrically connecting the piezoelectric sensor element to the processor, an insulating member coupled to the piezoelectric sensor element and being structured to extend outwardly from the sensor housing to engage the corresponding one of the electrical conductors, and a mounting enclosure structured to mount the piezoelectric sensor element and the insulating member to the sensor housing.

    Abstract: A current sensing assembly includes a conductor, first and second magnetic sensors disposed proximate to opposite sides of the conductor and being structured to output first and second voltage signals, a current direction detector circuit structured to detect a direction of a current flowing through the conductor, a switching circuit having first and second outputs and being structured to switch between a first condition where the first voltage signal is output to the first output and the second voltage signal is output to the second output and a second condition where the first voltage signal is output to the second output and the second voltage signal is output to the first output based on the switching signal, and an output circuit including a differential amplifier structured to amplify a voltage difference between the first and second voltage signals and to output the amplified voltage difference.

    Abstract: An apparatus for repeatably generating electrical arcs for testing an electrical switching device, such as an arc fault circuit interrupter, includes a stationary electrode and a movable electrode that is moved along a path of travel by an electromechanical device under the control of a controller that receives data from either a current measuring device or a voltage measuring device to detect the initiation of an arc. The movable electrode is caused to first make physical contact with the stationary electrode, and then is moved away from the stationary electrode until an arc is detected. Additionally, the movable electrode may be moved towards and away from the stationary electrode according to a test profile to control the magnitude of the randomness of the arc.
