  • Patent number: 9335153
Abstract: The present application discloses detecting an asperity on a storage media surface using two amplitude threshold crossings of an asperity detection signal within a preset timing window. The present application further discloses a temperature-dependent resistive asperity sensor and a preamplifier that correlates a resistance change at the asperity sensor within a preset timing window to detect an asperity on a storage media surface. The asperity may be one or both of a void in the storage media surface and a protrusion from the storage media surface.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 26, 2012
Date of Patent: May 10, 2016
    Assignee: SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLC
Inventors: Robert Matousek, Kevin David Powers, Dale Thomas Riley
  • Patent number: 8837073
Abstract: Approaches described in this disclosure are generally directed to methods and devices for delaying a write turn-on of a memory device. A write control signal from a memory controller to a preamplifier of a storage device is asserted. A warm-up interval of write drivers of the preamplifier is initiated, the warm-up interval having a duration of predetermined length. Data is transmitted to the write drivers during the warm-up interval.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 16, 2014
    Assignee: Seagate Technology LLC
Inventors: Dale Thomas Riley, Matthew Ian Robinson
  • Publication number: 20140085745
Abstract: The present application discloses a transducer head comprising a read element that reads data from a storage media and an asperity sensor that detects a dimension of an asperity on a surface of the storage media using a temperature change at the asperity sensor. The asperity may be one or both of a void in the surface of the storage media and a protrusion from the surface of the storage media.
