Patent number: 10458205Abstract: A removable hand guard is provided for installation on drilling rig hand tongs and used to protect the hands of workers from being accidentally crushed when gripping the tong handle. The hand guard can include resilient body and tabs, which allow the guard to be positioned on the tong handle. The hand guard can be locked into place using locks and fasteners. The hand guard can include a slot, which can form a secondary handle to be used by a second worker to maneuver the tongs.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2011Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Assignee: KATCH KAN HOLDINGS LTD.Inventors: Quinn A. J. Holtby, Dallas Laird Greenwood

Patent number: 10294740Abstract: Well fluid containment devices and methods. A housing may be provided for positioning around a pipe. A pipe gripping surface or grappler may be mounted to the housing. The pipe gripping surface resists movement when contacted in a first axial direction. The pipe gripping surface may permit movement when contacted in a second axial direction opposed to the first direction. The pipe gripping surface may, when contacted with a first force in a first axial direction, resist movement with an opposing force that increases as the first force increases. There may be a pressure relief connector between housing sections.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2015Date of Patent: May 21, 2019Assignee: Katch Kan Holdings Ltd.Inventors: Quinn A. J. Patent number: 10100585Abstract: A pipe mat for use with a tubing tray for receiving, organizing and storing drill pipe tripped out of a drill string on a drilling rig has a plurality of substantially parallel and spaced-apart support rails to form a plurality of drain channels disposed between adjacent pair of support rails. A plurality of substantially parallel and spaced-apart nub rails is disposed on the plurality of support rails. The nub rails are substantially orthogonal to the support rails, thereby forming a lattice structure having openings disposed between the nub rails that are in communication with the drain channels. A plurality of spaced-apart pipe nubs extend upwardly from the nub rails, which hold a drill pipe in place when an end of the drill pipe is placed onto one of the pipe nubs. A method for collecting fluids draining from drill pipe uses the pipe mat with the tubing tray.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2017Date of Patent: October 16, 2018Assignee: Katch Kan Holdings Ltd.Inventors: Quinn A. J. Holtby, Dallas Laird Greenwood

Publication number: 20170356257Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for containing fluid or gas that is released when two adjoining sections of pipe are disconnected. The apparatus can comprise two or more arcuate sections hinged together to form a generally cylindrical or tubular containment chute that can be releasably enclosed around a pipe joint. Latching mechanisms can hold the apparatus around the pipe joint. The apparatus can have one or more sealing members at each end of the containment chute that engage the pipe above and below the pipe joint so that the pipe joint is completely enclosed and sealed off. A spout located on the sidewall of the apparatus allows fluid or gas that is released when the pipe joint is broken to flow from the apparatus through the spout into a hose connected to the spout, whereby the hose can divert the fluid or gas to a receptacle or container.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2017Publication date: December 14, 2017Applicant: Katch Kan Holdings, Ltd.Inventors: Quinn A.J. Holtby, Dallas Laird Greenwood
