Publication number: 20130242844Abstract: Uplink transmissions by an access terminal are used to communicate information from one access point to another access point. For example, a first access point that is serving an access terminal and wishes to communicate certain information to a second access point configures the access terminal to conduct an uplink transmission using a specified physical layer parameter. The specified physical layer parameter is different from the physical layer parameter normally used by the access terminal for uplink transmissions to the first access point. The second access point monitors for uplink transmissions that are based on the specified physical layer parameter. Detection of an uplink transmission (based on the specified physical layer parameter) by the second access point results in the information being conveyed to the second access point.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2013Publication date: September 19, 2013Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Damanjit Singh, Peerapol Tinnakornsrisuphap, Mehmet Yavuz

Publication number: 20130244648Abstract: Information is communicated between access points to cause a recipient access point to invoke an action. In some aspects, a mapping is defined between: 1) sets of physical layer identifiers and/or associated time offsets; and 2) different types of information. The mapping information is provided to access points in a wireless communication system such that an access point can use this scheme to communicate specified types of information to another access point. Based on the mapping, an access point that receives a set of physical layer identifiers from another access point is able to determine the type of information being communicated. The recipient access point may then invoke a specific action based on the type of information that was communicated.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2013Publication date: September 19, 2013Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Damanjit Singh, Peerapol Tinnakornsrisuphap, Mehmet Yavuz

Publication number: 20130225165Abstract: Scanning for femto access points includes scanning out-of-band (OOB) channels to discover OOB signals associated with the femto access point. When a femto access point is first discovered, a first type of scan is performed of each of the OOB channels. The user equipment (UE) determines whether any received responses originate from femto OOB access points and, if so, updates a search database of the UE. During subsequent visits to the area of the femto OOB access points, when the UE detects entry to a fingerprint area of the femto OOB access point, a second type of scan is performed, in which each of the OOB channels with femto OOB access points identified in the search database are scanned. If responses are detected to this second type of scan, a proximity indication is transmitted using in-band signals to a serving macro access point.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 29, 2012Publication date: August 29, 2013Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: Soumya DAS, Damanjit SINGH, Samir Salib SOLIMAN

Publication number: 20130217385Abstract: Management of user equipment (UE) proximity indications to femto access points is provided using out-of-band (OOB) signals. To obtain OOB identification information on the femto access point, the UE determines the OOB identification information when in proximity to cells neighboring the femto access point. This OOB information is stored in a search information database (SID) of the UE and related to in-band information on the femto access point. To later determine proximity to the femto access point, in response to detecting its presence within a fingerprint area around the femto access point, a search for the femto access point is triggered using the OOB radio resources and OOB identification information associated with the femto access point in the SID. When the UE detects the femto access point using the OOB radio resources, the UE transmits a proximity indication to its serving base station over the in-band radio link.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2012Publication date: August 22, 2013Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: Soumya Das, Damanjit Singh, Samir Salib Soliman

Publication number: 20120094666Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices are described for supporting macrocell-to-femtocell hand-ins of active macro communications for mobile devices. An out-of-band (OOB) link is used to detect that a mobile device is in proximity of a femtocell. Having detected the mobile device in proximity to the femtocell, an OOB proximity detection is communicated to a femtocell gateway disposed in a core network in communication with the macro network to effectively pre-register the mobile device with the femto-convergence system. When the femtocell gateway receives a handover request from the macro network implicating the pre-registered mobile device, it is able to reliably determine the appropriate target femtocell to use for the hand-in according to the pre-registration, even where identification of the appropriate target femtocell would otherwise be unreliable. Some embodiments may also handling registering the mobile device after a handover request has occurred, including tiered approaches.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2011Publication date: April 19, 2012Applicant: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Olufunmilola O. Publication number: 20110207456Abstract: According to some wireless network standards the size of a neighbor cell list is restricted to a maximum size. The limited size of a neighbor cell list may not reflect the realities of a wireless network deployment, especially for deployments including numerous femto cells clustered in close proximity. Accordingly, as the concentration of macro cells and/or femto cells in an area increases, there lies a challenge to identify and communicate neighbor lists to user devices that reflect the arrangement of a particular portion of the deployment and the needs of the user devices. Various systems, methods and apparatus described herein are configured to provide a user device or a group of user devices a neighbor cell list that includes neighbor cell identifiers chosen from a candidate list.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2010Publication date: August 25, 2011Applicant: QUALCOMM INCORPORATEDInventors: Andrei Dragos Radulescu, Peter Hans Rauber, Sanjiv Nanda, Damanjit Singh, Jen M.
