    Abstract: An intraocular lens (IOL) with an oligodynamic metallic coating on its peripheral portion to substantially inhibit the migration of microorganisms towards the optical axis of the lens, where said coating is either an oligodynamic metal, or the combination of an oligodynamic metal and one or more noble metals which are more electronegative than said oligodynamic metal for substantially reducing the formation of secondary cataracts in the central posterior region of the optic in the capsular bag.
