    Abstract: An electronic cigarette has a mouthpiece portion and a power supply portion. The mouthpiece portion has an atomizer seating to receive an atomizer. An atomizer lock is located in the atomizer seating and is moveable between an open position and a locked position. An ejection mechanism with a biased ejection surface is moveable within the atomizer seating and is biased toward an extended position. The ejection mechanism is moved to a retracted position when an atomizer is introduced to the atomizer seating; the atomizer lock grips the atomizer to hold it in a fixed position. The atomizer is ejected from the atomizer seat when the atomizer lock is opened.

An enabling device is also provided to enable propagation of radiation from the laser to the absorber when the cartridge is assembled to the main body and to inhibit propagation of radiation from the laser to the absorber when the cartridge is disassembled from the main body.

The atomizer is connectable to an inner sleeve at the atomizer seating in a power supply portion. The atomizer is moveable toward the valve closing member such that the valve closing member is urged toward the open position, and away from the valve closing member such that the valve closing member cannot be urged toward the open position, by axially moving the inner sleeve in relation to an outer sleeve with an actuator.

    Abstract: A liquid refill system includes a liquid reservoir portion of an electronic cigarette and a refilling bottle. The refillable reservoir portion has a refillable liquid store, an axially moveable valve closing member and a first biasing member. The refillable liquid store has an opening in a bottom portion and the axially moveable valve closing member is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The first biasing member is configured to bias the axially moveable valve closing member towards the closed position to seal the liquid opening. The axially moveable valve closing member is moved into the open position when the refillable reservoir portion is engaged with the refilling bottle. The refilling bottle has a liquid tank 92 and a liquid transfer arrangement configured to transfer liquid from the liquid tank to the refillable liquid store in the in the electronic cigarette.

An absorber is provided to absorb light emitted by the laser and to generate heat. The optical interface selectively reflects or refracts light emitted by the laser such that light emitted by the laser is coupled towards the absorber when liquid is present at the optical interface and light emitted by the laser is coupled away from the absorber when liquid is not present at the optical interface.

    Abstract: An electronic cigarette includes a laser and a replaceable atomiser. A reservoir is provided for storing a vaporisable liquid. The replaceable atomiser includes a light guide, an absorber and a vaporisation chamber. A liquid inlet in the atomiser provides a flow path for liquid in the reservoir to flow towards the absorber and the vaporisation chamber. The light guide is configured to couple light from the laser towards the absorber which can generate heat by absorbing the emitted light and this can cause vaporisation of the vaporisable liquid. When the light guide becomes dirty or contaminated it can be replaced simply by replacing the atomiser.
