Patent number: 10927575Abstract: A fireplace latch system has a pivotable latch retained within a latch retainer. One or more springs between the pivotable latch and latch retainer bias the latch towards two stable positions, an opened position and a closed position. In the closed position, one or more surface contacting elements extend through the latch retainer and exert a force on a frame for a glass panel to secure the glass panel and frame to the fireplace. The latch system allows the glass panel and frame to move outwards to release pressure in the event of an explosion within the combustion chamber of the fireplace.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2017Date of Patent: February 23, 2021Assignee: CANADIAN HEATING PRODUCTS INC.Inventor: Lothar Dan Binzer

Patent number: 9097427Abstract: A power vented fireplace uses a single air inlet to pressurize a staging area from where air is distributed along a passageway between viewing panels to cool them as well as into the combustion chamber as a supply of combustion air. A partial restriction at an inlet to the passageway ensures that sufficient air is directed into the combustion chamber. The inlet to passageway may be adjustable to vary the extent of the restriction. Pressure differential switches may be used to ensure balanced operation of the fireplace.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2013Date of Patent: August 4, 2015Assignee: CANADIAN HEATING PRODUCTS INC.Inventor: Lothar Dan Binzer

Patent number: 8567387Abstract: An unvented gas fireplace in which air flow through a closed combustion chamber is controlled by means of a restriction in the air flow path through an outer plenum chamber surrounding the combustion chamber. The restriction in the air flow path through the plenum causes a pressure differential between the plenum and combustion chamber, forcing air from the plenum into the combustion chamber, where it is combusted and mixed with the cool air that has passed the restriction in the plenum, before the air mixture is exhausted into the surrounding room, thereby heating the room.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2011Date of Patent: October 29, 2013Assignee: Canadian Heating Products Inc.Inventor: Dan Binzer

Publication number: 20120192853Abstract: An unvented gas fireplace in which air flow through a dosed combustion chamber is controlled by means of a restriction in the air flow path through an outer plenum chamber surrounding the combustion chamber, causing a pressure differential between the plenum and combustion chamber, forcing air from the plenum into the combustion chamber, where it is combusted and mixed with the cool air that has passed the restriction in the plenum, before the air mixture is exhausted into the surrounding room or area. A diverter selects between exhausting the heated air in the same or the opposite side as the air intake. The unit may be used as an outdoor stand-alone fireplace.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2011Publication date: August 2, 2012Applicant: CANADIAN HEATING PRODUCTS INC.Inventor: Dan Binzer

Publication number: 20110104621Abstract: A pilot ignition system for an outdoor gas appliance provides a pilot igniter that is isolated from the ambient wind around the burner by physically distancing the pilot igniter from the burners. The distance is overcome by providing a jet of gas to a nozzle slightly upstream of the pilot, the jet of gas being directed toward the burner. The jet of gas is ignited by the pilot resulting in a torch or jet of flame extending from the pilot igniter through the downstream length of an enclosure to the burner. The jet of flame bridges the distance between the pilot igniter and the burner, while the distance itself isolates the pilot light from wind in the vicinity of the burner.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 5, 2009Publication date: May 5, 2011Inventor: Dan Binzer

Publication number: 20110056481Abstract: A burner and pilot assembly for a gas fireplace has a substantially hollow burner enclosure with a plurality of burner outlet apertures at the top of the enclosure. A pilot burner is mounted within the enclosure to underlie a portion of the outlet apertures such that flame from the pilot burner extends from a portion of the outlet apertures to merge the appearance of the pilot flame with the main burner flame when the main burner is lit. The invention is well-suited to a linear-style gas fireplace burner.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2009Publication date: March 10, 2011Applicant: CANADIAN HEATING PRODUCTS INC.Inventor: Dan Binzer

Publication number: 20110041832Abstract: A manufactured fireplace is adapted for flush-mounting within a pre-sized opening in a wall structure without the need to double the layers of drywall surrounding the opening. The fireplace metal facing panels are manufactured to be flush from the fireplace window to an outer edge of the panels. Non-combustible board is attached over the panels during manufacture of the fireplace, obviating the need for installers to size, cut and attach non-combustible board to the fireplace panels on site then to attempt to achieve a flush-mounting by doubling up the layer of drywall surrounding the fireplace opening. The fireplace including the attached non-combustible board facing is shipped to a work site for installation.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2009Publication date: February 24, 2011Inventor: Lothar Dan Binzer

Publication number: 20090235919Abstract: A means for avoiding the build up of a film on the inside surface of the transparent window of a gas fireplace comprises providing a mesh screen spaced a short distance of the inside surface. The mesh screen is believed to interrupt the flow of gases toward the window thereby preventing the build up.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2008Publication date: September 24, 2009Inventor: Dan Binzer

Patent number: 5746588Abstract: A burner for a gas fireplace wherein a plurality of apertures are provided along the length of an enclosure and gas inlets are provided for introducing gas into both ends of the enclosure. Movable members are disposed over air inlet holes at each end for selectively restricting the inlet of combustion air into the enclosure thereby allowing control over the longitudinal position of maximum flame from the burner.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1996Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Inventor: Dan Binzer
