  • Patent number: 6559248
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of purifying olefin containing oxygenate contaminants. The method incorporates the use of extractive distillation. Under the appropriate conditions, olefins containing very low levels of oxygenate contaminants can be recovered.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 31, 2001
Date of Patent: May 6, 2003
    Assignee: ExxonMobil Chemical Patents Inc.
Inventors: Dan E. Hendriksen, Minquan Cheng, Keith H. Kuechler, David R. Lumgair, Michael P. Nicoletti, Richard Shutt

  • Patent number: 6063976
Abstract: The present invention provides a method comprising (a) contacting a first reaction mixture comprising an aromatic and a dilute stream comprising ethylene and propylene with a large pore microporous solid acid catalyst, preferably a large pore zeolite catalyst, which is effective to promote alkylation of the aromatic under first conditions effective to maintain a liquid phase comprising the aromatic and effective to cause the propylene to alkylate said aromatic but substantially ineffective to cause the ethylene to alkylate said aromatic, forming propylated aromatic and a second dilute stream comprising ethylene but substantially depleted of propylene, and (b) recovering the propylated aromatic.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 18, 1998
Date of Patent: May 16, 2000
    Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patent Inc.
Inventors: Dan E. Hendriksen, James R. Lattner, Jos P. Wristers
  • Patent number: 5731486
Abstract: A method for producing 3-methyl-2-pentene which is substantially free of any other C.sub.6 olefin, except 2-ethyl-1-butene, by first producing a stream that contains 2-ethyl-1-butene from the trimerization of ethylene, and second by recovering the 2-ethyl-1-butene as 3-methyl-2-pentene via etherification, separation of the ether, and decomposition of the ether back to predominantly 3-methyl-2-pentene with some 2-ethyl-1-butene.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 17, 1995
Date of Patent: March 24, 1998
    Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patents Inc
Inventors: Dan E. Hendriksen, Gerald G. McGlamery, Michael J. Keenan, Derrick D. Pete

  • Patent number: 5430213
Abstract: Pure 1,4-dienes are produced at high rates of reaction by reacting a conjugated diene and an alpha monoolefin at a temperature below 70.degree. C. in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of a 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane ligand of Co(II)(acetylacetonate).sub.2 or Co(III)(acetylacetonate).sub.3 or CoCl.sub.2 in combination with a dialkylaluminum halide such as diethylaluminum chloride.

  • Patent number: 5118871
Abstract: A method for producing alkyl tertiary alkyl ether involves supplying a feed including isoolefins, alcohols, and dialkyl sulfides into a feed zone of a reactor; contacting the feed with a catalyst material in the reaction zone; and catalytically reacting the isooolefins and alcohols under conditions which favor forming resultant ether and inhibiting reaction of dialkyl sulfides with the catalyst material.

Date of Patent: June 2, 1992
    Assignee: Exxon Chemical Patents Inc
